DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Was the motherboard tray lifted from the bottom after V1? I have a V1 and don't remember there being enough room to fit a fan into the bottom. Seems like a really involved mod / not possible without a new case if that is the case. I now see that V4 has the bottom fan mount added under the...

I think your fan blades are right up against the fins and its causing turbulence and interference which is probably your primary source of noise. This is the same reason why the C7 is soo noisy. The fan blades are in close proximity to the side panel holes, and you get the noise from passing...

    DAN HSLP-48: A powerful sub 50mm heatsink

When the case is running, its positive pressure so no dust enters through the IO area. When off, there is minimal airflow in the room, so dust tends to just fall onto horizontal surfaces, and dust does collect anyway. Dust should fall through the top holes, and possibly through the IO port...

    DAN HSLP-48: A powerful sub 50mm heatsink

From what I understand, Dan is trying to test the heatsinks with the fan on-top because 1) Its much easier to mount and unmount the fans and heatsinks for testing 2) It means the fans are running at their best, so the test is about the limits of the heatsink rather than the fan, therefore...

For those who are using the shrouds, are you noticing an increase in sound reflection and thus louder fan noise for a given RPM? I noticed with my shroud the noise levels that temps are lower but despite the lower fan RPM, noise reflection meant that it was still louder. Maybe the use of foam in...

And pulling air in from outside should give the CPU fresh cool air, while pushing air out will help exhaust hot air, but likely give the CPU hot air from the case internal temp, or even from the GPU. We shall find out what works best when it is in our hands (if we do end up with one)

It would be very sensible to ship without fan for the majority of users such as ourselves. Even if this reaches the outer markets beyond the DanCase, its a niche heatsink that isn't planning to be available through retail channels, so buyers should be wall aware of what they are getting into. I...

NCASE M1 version changelog and suggestions thread

I prefer the look of the acrylic within the alum panel as it resolves the mounting issue. If it were to go one way, this is my preference from a functional perspective. Scratching is a concern for the owner, and is something that needs to be their responsibility. Its the nature of the material...

TINY ATX: Sub 20L gaming case project

Why ATX when the lower PCI slots are blocked by the PSU? I am not familiar with ATX boards, but apart from the larger selection and lower costs, is mATX or even ITX not preferred with the same layout as it would afford more space next to the PSU for cable management or anything else. (OOPS...

My SF450 fan doesnt turn on until my system is running really hot, so the 15mm thin noctua fan will be helpful for the psu at idle loads, but at full rpm even the noctua does push a little more air than what is naturally exhausted from the gpu fan but not significantly more. I think if you have...

I agree that this is certainly the next step. The cardboard is a definite proof of concept, and it is promising so far. I might either add felt to this one, or make another with more space for a felt lining. Inclined to add to this one and see how it goes.

Ducting of the LP53 fan yielded a 3 degree improvement in temperatures! The duct was created to cover as much of the side panel as possible to increase the effective available side panel area, reducing the restriction on airflow, especially when I do eventually have demci filters installed. The...

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

The inclusion of threaded spacers could provide for this. Not sure if there is much cost in sourcing the spacers and having them included, but then how many are actually lowering the psu, and for what reason. Having an upper exhaust fan could be a good reason, but its benefits are only realised...

A few days back I have also done a duct for the LP53, using the A9-14 fan, and my results are an improvement of 3 degrees. Good to see the results are both pointing in the same direction! Will put up my results and pictures when i have time later. My duct was a different shape, with it...

    DAN HSLP-48: A powerful sub 50mm heatsink

Its looking like a real heatsink now! Intrigued about the installation order for the heatsink. Seems similar to the noctua type with two metal bars that are fixed to the motherboard, and then two screws are used to connect the heatsink onto the mounting bars. Will there be holes in the fins to...

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

Thats right! and its a double blow in the context of this case, a natural forced exhaust is possible if a low profile LP53/ L9i heatsink is used, fins orientated horizontally, no VRM heatsink on the motherboard, and no IO shield installed, then a 92mm fan will blow the hot air directly out of...

Looking pretty with direct touch heatpipes too :) . Are the fin spacing bends necessary for the middle of the heatsink? And can the outer ones be placed on the outer edge in the unlikely event that we end up using a 120mm larger fan? Just wondering as there might be a good manufacturing reason...

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

My findings agree with yours, and indicate there is no benefit to CPU temps with a 120mm fan, but the motherboard components do benefit. Not having the VRM heatsinks really help let the hot air out of the back of the IO area when the IO shield is not installed.

GHOST S1 - When both size & performance matters

Without the tophat, would that mean that the front 1/3 of the case has a large hole opening? Ah, I looked at the photos again, yes, the top hat are extensions. So in the 'normal' situation, there must therefore be the 'glossy top cover plate' that sits over the top. So if the glossy panel sits...

GHOST S1 - When both size & performance matters

So the top-hats are required in all scenarios, just in the small, medium or large spacing. If this is the case, then I am wondering what the function of the meshed top over the spine (58% holes) is? seems to add a significant level of restriction and noise if fans are placed directly onto it...

No formal figures yet (on paper, but not in this post yet) but some experimentation comes up with the following observations. With an LP53 with stock thermal paste, Asus H97I Plus, no IO shield, stock mobo standoffs. Noctua A9-14 - blowing into the case - Lets call this the reference. 1)...

It was a left-over from my experimentations for my NCase build. I happened to buy 5 of these and had them hanging around as none of them made the cut for my NCase build. I am almost finished with mounting the 120mm fan over my LP53. Spent some time fabricating aluminium mounting tabs that are fixed to the VRM heatsink mounting holes on my H97I Plus motherboard. I have used a light cured acrylic material as a spacer that allows for a close fit. It allows for...

Orientation of the heatpipes may have some influence too. Some manufacturers may recommend a particular orientation of their heatsink as it affects the ability for the fluid to work its way back towards the CPU end of the heatpipe, and thus cooling efficacy. When I have my system back in...

Including it with the case will increase its cost very significantly, and if its not universally compatible, will affect sales of the case. The problem with 2000 units is this assumes that all units sell. Its so make or break with such a small profit margin. If dan ends up selling all 2000...

DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

The installation of a fan over the back area had no benefit in my testing, and I suspect mostly because the amount of airflow from my GPU is greater than what the 80x10 could push, and therefore it was not helpful, except that it made more noise! I would not say that pushing is better than...

My PSU is one which is quite the opposite. On the Bench, the fan barely spins and it wasn't until I actively covered the intake opening and ran a full system load test for at least 30 minutes before the fan even turned on, and even then only at minimum speeds where the sticker on the fan can...

And in my case (haha), my GPU dumps quite a fair bit of heat through that front top mesh, so an intake fan there is directly competing with the GPU exhaust, so the hot air is forced to travel out through a different vent, and travel through the case over the other components. For mine, that area...

    DAN HSLP-48: A powerful sub 50mm heatsink

Heat carrying capacity in the heatpipes needs to be balanced against the conductivity of heat from heat pipes to the fins and then to the extremeties of the fins. Fewer heatpipes means more distance between them, and therefore the heat needs to be able to travel further within the fins. For a...
