Would you ever go back to LCD after experiencing OLED?

no lol Bought one, actually I own 2 OLEDs one of which is 5 years old(LG TV) and neither have any burn-in. My alienware has 12+ hours a day on it for close to 2 years now(received early May 2022) and still nothing. Sorry to disappoint. There's always risk but in my book "oh no my $900 monitor...

What do we think of Sony moving away from OLED and back to LED?

LCDs have always gotten brighter than competing technologies that offer better contrast. That's not anything new. And yes, it sells TVs in the stores. That isn't new. The problem is always that going brighter is impressive, but if you're elevating the black levels in the surrounding area at the...

What do we think of Sony moving away from OLED and back to LED?

I think they're just tired of having their flagship being fundamentally a product made by another manufacturer. Both in terms of PR and margins. If they give up on OLED completely it'll be a bit sad that we can't get QD-OLED with Dolby Vision anymore. There is no indication whatsoever they've...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I have just over 6000 hours on mine and there's no burn-in at all, only posted grey but I checked every color. I'm not gentle with the monitor either, I don't hide the taskbar and I use it 10-12 hours per day for work in addition to gaming, youtube, etc. I do have eco mode off so I get more...

PG27AQDM 240hz OLED vs PG27AQM 360Hz IPS for competative FPS?

250 nits should be more than enough unless there's a lot of external light in the room, like brighter than a typical LED lit office building.

    According to tftcentral LG is planning a 16:9 240hz 42" 4K OLED

TFTCentral is talking about panel release dates though, not display. If panels are ready in Q3 2024 as predicted, it's unlikely products will be out until well into 2025 at the earliest, and if that's delayed even a little bit 2026 is more likely.

    Why OLED for PC use?

Ive been using my Alienware AW3423DW for 9 months now with no signs of burn-in. Brightness is 50%(can't imagine why anyone would want to use more than that). I treat it as a normal monitor, and use it probably 10-12 hours a day. I do not hide my taskbar. The only concession I've made to it...

Samsung 50" Micro LED in 2023?

Did you even read the thread? it's not a product it's a prototype and it's not even 4K. And you can bet the first one that IS 4K and a product will be *far* more than $3000 lol.

Samsung 50" Micro LED in 2023?

Haha, well, if the 50" is 4K even as a proof of concept that still means they CAN do it, which is a step. I would guess they're not products because the yields are too poor or the prices would have to be 10s of thousands higher than the bigger models which would make them unmarketable.
  11. S

Samsung 50" Micro LED in 2023?

Yes, I would like to see the pricing as it will give us an idea of what the trend to "affordable" is going to look like. It's odd that they are trumpeting the 76" as "smallest and most affordable" with two smaller models in the lineup. I suspect that means there's something "wrong" with the...

Samsung 50" Micro LED in 2023?

$10K+ I'd guess. They're not saying how much the new ones will cost yet which always means 'lol way too much'.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

HDR isn't about eye-searing brightness though, it's about contrast. Obviously if you side-by-side a blown-out FALD next to an OLED, the FALD is going to look more impactful. Your eyes are going to be adjusted for the brighter display. But the actual contrast is worse. There's really no point to...

Odyssey OLED G8: Official Introduction | 34" Samsung OLED

Neither of those numbers are anywhere near correct. The problem with LCDs is their response times are heavily inconsistent, and vary widely depending on what color they transition to and from. Even fast 240hz ones typically have >10ms response times for some colors. This will produce awful...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

My monitor has 0 burn-in (checked on full screen grey, yellow, and red, not on content like some kind of idiot...) and I've been using it with 0 precautions for 4.5 months. I don't hide the taskbar, and I do work 8-10 hours per day plus some gaming and other stuff, probably 10-12 hours a day...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Literally anyone can do this. It's the easiest thing in the world. If you can't, I'm sorry you have an eyesight problem, maybe get that checked out. Also, not sure why you keep saying 250 nits. That's more than double the normal calibration standard of 80-120 nits and using a screen at 250 nits...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

There's nothing to forget because that isn't true at all. It's very misleading to call slight brightness dimming "flicker". LCD backlight PWM flicker is completely different. Slight brightness dimming with refresh rate is also common to all types of OLED and nobody is complaining about LG OLEDs...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

lolwut. MiniLED is more like half-crippled LCD instead of completely crippled standard LCD. It still has the same response time issues(often worse in fact because making the miniLEDs have good latency is expensive and hard, see all the massively overpriced gsync ultimate lcds) and the black...

    Commercial or Comsumer Grade?

Commercial LCDs are designed to optimize brightness and lifespan, and that's literally it. Their image quality is garbage compared to any of the higher end consumer displays. There's really no point to even looking at them.

    LG 27 " OLED and 31.5" 4K

These monitors already exist, I don't really know what they've changed if anything. It seems like they might just have added built-in colorimeters or something. Anyway, it's still 60hz crap which is pretty uninteresting IMO.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I'm just microfibering it and using monitor wipes. No damage caused that I've seen. My screen did come with some of the light coating scratches that others have pointed out, but they're only in the top left part and they're completely invisible unless you shine a flashlight directly on the...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I think the text clarity "issue" on OLEDs is massively overblown. When I got my QD-OLED, first thing I did was check text on a variety of sizes and background colors. The only time I'd say it was even really noticeable was with very tiny text sizes. Was there an improvement using the ClearType...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

To be clear, it works fine for me with hardware acceleration on. I don't know why people are having that problem, but it's not purely because of the display. If that option helps, then it's probably some kind of driver issue.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Edge case low framerate VRR flicker and stuff like that is super common to all monitors and not really what I'd describe as a significant(or even worth talking about) flicker problem, but OK lol. I run Slack on Win10 and even with a game in windowed mode(w/Gsync Windowed enabled) and Slack on...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

The pixel refresh logic seems a bit broken if you're still getting the window where it asks you. It liked to ask me to do a pixel refresh on power-on as well. Since I told it to never ask again, it's not been an issue. There is no benefit to having it ask you as far as I can tell.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Really? I'm not sure that's true... I haven't had a Dell monitor in a while, but there's plenty of evidence of firmware updates for their other monitors online eg https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-ca/000123821/updating-the-firmware-for-the-dell-up2516d-and-up2716d Anyway it is what it is.

I didn't say it was OK as-is lol, I want them to fix it. But I'm enjoying my monitor anyway and it's hardly the least convenient thing I've dealt with in PC hardware. YMMV!

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

It powers off. Yes, it's annoying. They should change it so it goes into standby after pixel refresh. The rules are: Has the monitor been used for at least 4 hours? Standby -> Pixel Refresh -> off. The only time it ever asked me to pixel refresh when I turn the monitor on was before I answered...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Has anyone found a way to fix the Samsung QD-OLED TVs? My understanding from Vincent's last video is that he couldn't find any way to fix the EOTF curve in any mode so the TVs cannot be made accurate.

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I would consider the Samsung version of this if they release it. But other than that, what's the alternative? There's no OLED or QD-OLED gaming monitors on the horizon short of 42-48" LG things and while I understand why people like those, I'd really prefer something smaller like this one. So...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Total nonsense, they can do whatever they want. I didn't say it was *easy*. Plenty of companies like Apple let you choose whether or not you want a stand with a monitor. Yes, it would require them to make changes to their SKUs and possibly to the packaging, but if 10s of thousands of these...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

It's not completely impossible but it does seem incompetent to me if true. Many people would take these displays happily without stands if it meant avoiding a 3+ month delay. Then again, Dell has an ordering system which doesn't allow changing of credit card info for an order after it's placed...

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Samsung Display(the panel makers) have nothing to do with that TV's problems. The EOTF and color calibration cheating would have been inserted by the TV manufacturer, which, while still owned by Samsung, is a completely separate company.
  39. S

    Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

To me the point is more: If you want inaccurately vibrant colors, you can change the settings on any TV to be more like that. But if you're *comparing* two TVs you have to do it with them calibrated and accurate, otherwise you're not comparing the display capability. You're just comparing a...
