One of the problems you may encounter with SATA 1 (150 mb/s) is the hard drive itself. By the time SATA II (300 mb/s) came out ... hard drives had to be jumpered to be compatible with SATA I... by the time SATA III (600 mb/s) hard drives and SSDs came out the jumper block on the hard drive...
I came late to the x99 motherboard ecosystem....
Currently I am using an ASUS x99 Deluxe II mobo, paired with an i7 6850k. This build is a little over a year old, made from used parts and some new parts.
The x99 Deluxe II motherboard, kitted with a TPM 2.0 Module will run Windows 11 Pro well...
If painting Aluminum, I'd research how to do it. As I remember raw aluminum and anodized aluminum have different steps to primer and paint them... and are different than steel. I don't know if an etching primer is needed and such. Maybe automotive Trim paint is needed.... don't know.
1) Thoroughly clean plastics
2) Use an automotive vinyl dye (spray can)... also I've heard Krylon has a plastic paint, but I've no experience with it.
3) use multiple light coats on all surfaces.
It's been since the beige cases of the 90's since I used vinyl dye on a pc case.

What is the screw thread spec for a Corsair Hydro H115i ?
Is it #6-32 x 1-1/4 " screw or M3 x 30mm .... ? The internet is not exactly helpful for me on this right now.
Thinking of adding a fan shroud to the H115i between the 140mm fans and the Radiator. So if the stock screw is #6-32 thread...
I have the 1 TB version of the Samsung 970 EVO Plus.... worth it and worth the size I got it in.
Funny, cause for NVMe m.2 SSDs... I recommend the Samsung 970 EVO Plus or the 970 & 980 Pro SSDs
for 2.5" SATA SSDs the sweet spot I find is the Western Digital Blue SSD with 3D NAND in a 1 TB...
Have you considered using the U.2 Ports for an Enterprise 2.5" SSD ?
Your board is the same as mine and has ports for those. I'm considering it myself somewhere down the road.
The U.2 ports are located beside the SATA Express header on the leading edge of the mobo and if I recall without...
I am considering another m.2 SSD on a PCIe riser card myself. Though the thought of using a 2.5" U.2 NVMe SSD also appeals to me, as my x99 ASUS Deluxe II has ports for that.
I'll keep an eye on this Post for future contemplation... thanks !

I'm using a 1 TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe m.2 SSD in my system. Although I have some space to spare, I am considering a 2 TB version of this SSD as my OS drive. Just to be comfortable with space available. It's not required, but it would be nice.
Once you have the OS, Work Applications, a few...
it works on x99 if you have the TPM 2.0 running and Secure Boot enabled.... regular bare metal install was used, no Reg hacks... I get Windows Updates
And it runs very well in a non VM/ regular enviro ... better than 10 (IMHO)
Maybe you should switch to Linux if you don't like GUI desktops... or...
Literally I bought one shortly before scalpers started jacking prices for the ASUS 14-1 pin TPM R2.0 module compatible for an ASUS x99 Deluxe II motherboard. My old TPM module (TPM 1.2) for an ASUS x99 Deluxe (gen I) motherboard would not fit on the Deluxe II motherboard (TPM 2.0) ... so I...
Windows 11 Pro on Broadwell E 6th Gen / x 99 Chipset motherboard
No issues so far doing a Bare Metal Install of Windows 11 Pro via USB Media Creation Tool for my Core i7 6850k / Asus x99 Deluxe II w/ TPM module....
All Windows 10 Drivers from the Asus motherboard support page installed fine...
Still running my Core i7 6850k / Asus x99 Deluxe II ./ 64 Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX system
It works fine with the Windows 11 Beta Release having a TPM 2.0 module installed and Secure Boot going. Just it's an old system... damn good .. but old. I think I am satisfied enough to either run Windows...
I just got Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview Build 22000.160 working on my computer's main drive through Beta Channel Insider Program under Windows Update.
Intel Core i7 6850k
ASUS x99 Deluxe II motherboard
64GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2666 Mhz
Asus TPM 2.0 module & Secure Boot enabled
I have a...
My issue wasn't that setting Insider to the Dev Channel wouldn't state that my computer didn't meet Minimum Requirements. I tried the Windows Update Win 11 Upgrade... it tried to do the Upgrade, but on Boot the Install failed initially. So I figured I'd try it if I could get my hands on the ISO...
I got Windows 11 Pro Build 22000.1 installed on a 2nd SSD last night... don't mind the dual boot hijinks, I can wipe the drive later. Updated to Cumulative Update to Build 22000.51.
It works on an Intel 6850k x99 Deluxe II w/ Asus TPM-M R2.0 module. Just had to extract and build an .ISO off the...
Check Your Boot Menu in the UEFI BIOS settings for Secure Boot... if it is enabled. Also check if TPM settings are enabled in BIOS or they call it something else. PTT or something like that.
I read Lamptron just released a 7" screen w/ included software ( HX070 ) which can be mounted internally and has USB connections.
EDIT ... seems they have several to choose from.
I did a Post about it a while back...
Um, I bought the mini Bulgin switch bare and already had a bare front panel switch and wire & LED set on hand.... soldered them up and drilled a hole in the case. Turned out less than Perfect, but only if you look really close. The thing I had to keep in...
I put a Reset button into the bezel of my Lian Li 011 Dynamic Razer Edition. It was a mini Bulgin type w/ LED ring. This gave me Reset functionality and HDD Activity, which the case was lacking. Also done is use one of those USC 3.0 Header to USC C Front Panel Header dongles on the motherboard...
That was a consideration in the build. I thought about doing a x299 build, but there wasn't enough new about the features over a x99 platform. And I had most of the parts on hand for what I built. Doing a complete built ordering new parts would be really expensive.
done ...
Also Thunderbolt has to be enabled in the BIOS... it has it's own place that shows up in Bios settings varying depending which motherboard / brand you have. Plus, may need a driver DVD... so get the retail box that will include Add in Card, Driver DVD, mini DisplayPort to Thunderbolt 3...
My Asus x99 Deluxe II motherboard has a Thunderbolt header too. So ASUS has a Thunderbolt 3 Add in Card, which includes a cable that attaches to the motherboards header...
It isn't a PCI bracket dongle.... it's an actual PCIe add in card that does the job.
like this...
I just switched motherboards to an ASUS x99 Deluxe II and it has 2x onboard U.2 NVMe ports.
Is the Samsung 983 DCT 960 GB U.2 NVMe SSD worth it using as a swap drive for home workstation use?
SATA3 is getting a little slow for large transfers, and I'd like something to match what throughput my 1...
I'm retired and without a wife unit, so these aren't concerns of mine...
The GF however will drop a couple of grand on a sewing machine that does fancy designs... so, she can't really say much either
And... I like the x99 platform. I've been wanting to build one for a few years.... so now, I...
Well... that was about the easiest Upgrade I've done.
The New To Me ASUS x99 Deluxe II motherboard is in this system and working stable. No USB dropouts, soft crashes, Q Code D0 Boot failures or Q Code 33 Boot hang...
I was able to Boot into my install of Windows 10 Pro and update the drivers...
Yeah, I was looking on eBay for a used HGST 6TB NAS drive HDN726060ALE614 or HDN726060ALE610.... noticed prices on 6-10 TB used drives across all brands are nearly that of what you can buy new on Newegg...
jacking up prices all over
There was a 610 version at $157.xx CAD used in the US... but...
I have an Intel i7 6850k in my x99 Deluxe v1 rig right now... I got it off eBay from Hong Kong for $167.xx Canadian Loonies.... I just didn't have enough cash-ola at the time for a used i7 6900k but that would have worked too...
still 6 cores, 40 PCIe lanes works well and the IPC boost going...
