I'm planning on getting a sit and standing desk. The desk is only 24" deep and because I will have 3 monitors and a bunch of items on the desk, I don't think I'll have room to place the keyboard on the desk top itself. So I will need to sit back from the desk using a keyboard tray. But the desk...
This is obviously a windows version of the Mac Studio ultra. I mean, Lenovo is not even trying to hide it.
It seems to be able to be configured with up to an Intel i-9. And, unlike the Mac Studio, it can be upgraded. Very nice.
I was soooo hoping this would also have just as powerful...
I have a laptop with 2 usb-c ports (one is PD). Neither is thunderbolt. If I get a monitor with a usb-c upstream port, will this power the laptop along with video to the monitor by using just one cable?
Or do I need a thunderbolt port on my laptop?
So, I am going to be working from home soon, and I'm just planning out my home office hardware and the best way to connect it all.
What I have so far is:
- PC tower
- 2 laptops (one for work, one for personal use)
- 2 x 24" monitors
- wired keyboard
- wired mouse
- wifi router
What I plan to...
For anyone using a recent model BenQ monitor with e-paper mode: Is this just a low blue light mode, or is it different? What exactly does this mode do?
Do you like it?
I want to buy 2 monitors to connect to a laptop, with one usb-c cable to the laptop. Most of the monitors I've been looking at can be daisy chained. As long as both monitors have Display Port out am I good to go? Or does one of the monitors have to have a hub (like some Dells advertise)?
1. When the same panel is used by different brands, can the brand (e.g. Dell, HP, BenQ, etc) have an affect on the actual picture quality itself? Or can the brand only offer different features, like ports, stands, mounting, bezels, etc ?
2. Also, is the screen coating (e.g. matte, semi-gloss...
Just been reading about how the newer Dell UltraSharps have a built-in blue light filter called comfortview plus. Apparently this is always on, and of course makes everything look yellowish. Not good for photo editing.
Has anyone found any way to disable this?
I would like to buy a couple of monitors from Amazon to compare and then return one of them. (within the return window of course) They are both from third party sellers.
Just wondering if people here have had good/bad experience with this?
I need a new monitor for work (and occasional movie watching). I don't game at all. I'm coming from a 22" 1080p screen, and I need more real estate. I should mention I'm over 60 and my vision isn't what it used to be.
If I get a 27" 4K, the PPI will be 163, so text (on a good IPS screen anyway)...
Just wondering if there's any difference in the anti-glare coating between the Dell U-series and P-series? Or does it vary from model to model within each series?
I've been looking at this Lenovo E16 AMD (configured with 16 GB) https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/configurator/cto/index.html?bundleId=21JTCTO1WWCA1
It says it has 8 GB soldered and 8 GB SODIMM.
Can this be upgraded, and if so, do I need to be careful about how I pair any future RAM modules, since...
I'm trying to decide between these two boards, and wondering if going with a workstation mobo would be better, worse, or just unnecessary ? It's $200 cheaper right now than the Z790.
One nice advantage of the WS W680 is I can have ECC RAM (not critical, but nice to have). But besides that and...
I'm looking for the Phantom Spirit 120 (not the SE version). Can't seem to find it anywhere (I'm in Canada).

I'd like to know what you're idle temps are on your 7950x (or non x) or 7900x (or non x).
The voltage (PBO on/off?), how many watt, and cooler would be good bonus info, but the main thing is what is your stock idle temps at the desktop?
Thanks.
Rumors now heating up that the RLR will come out in August this year. Hopefully we'll see some temp and power improvements, although I know more people are probably waiting for Arrow Lake and the next 14th gen redesign.
Linus shows off a new direct die cooler for LGA 1700 CPUs. The EKWB EK-Quantum Velocity² Direct Die copper cooler. https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-quantum-velocity2-direct-die-d-rgb-1700-nickel-plexi
What is the SUPRIM line in the MSI Nvidia 3000 series line up? I've been over the specs and I can't discern what is different, if anything.
How does it compare to the Gaming X trio line?
Is AV1 encoding capability added via a bios update, an OS or browser update, or is it built into hardware? I don't quite understand.
I'm choosing parts for a new build now and this will be part of my consideration. So if it has to be implemented at the hardware level, I may wait, for example...
This will affect my motherboard choice for my next build.
One mobo has USB4, and a new monitor I'm looking at has a TB4 port. It made wonder if there is much difference between the ports/cables in terms of picture quality or any other consideration.
I've been looking at monitors with the new IPS Black technology. There are only a few monitors that have it so far, the Dell U2723QE (and larger U3223QE), the HP Z32k G3, and the LG 32UQ85R-W.
The Amazon reviews for the Dell U2723QE are not very good (mostly related to backlight bleed and...
I like the current line up of B650 boards. and can't afford to go to the higher end x670 ones.
Both B650 boards are on sale now. Can't make up my mind.
The AsRock Taichi is $200 more, but has a USB4 port (not just a header), clear CMOS button (not just a header), and better audio. Not sure...
I realize not much is known about Zen 5 yet, but just reading the snippets of info about it so far seems to indicate that AMD's emphasis for Zen 5 will be on power efficiency, with a rumored separation between performance cores and efficiency cores (like Intel). So maybe Zen 5 will idle at a...
So I'm looking at various mobos and part of my decision will be based on the audio codec. Would like to get the best onboard sound quality without going to an external DAC (which I might get later). I'm not up on the latest codecs and could use help determining which is better.
- Realtek ALC...
I haven't used the AMD platform yet, but am planning to get a Ryzen 9 7000 series soon. I was just wondering...are eco mode and PBO both in the bios settings? And are they both just one-step toggle? Or does either one involve another step/click?
So the 7900x just jumped back up by $150. to $750. I saw it a week ago for as little as $599. (CDN).
Any idea of when it might come back down in price? Maybe the summer?
These are the two CPUs I'm considering. I realize the Ryzen 7700x is more of a direct rival to the 3700K but price-wise right now they are very similar, and still not too far apart in specs.
I'm coming from a very old system, so whether Intel or AMD I'll have to buy a new mobo as well. I do not...
I bought this cooler last year for an AM4 build that I didn't get around to. Now I am seriously considering an Intel build instead. The box does not list compatibility for an LGA 1700 socket (for an 1-7 13700K).
Is there a bracket I could get to make it fit? Or will I have to buy a whole new...
Just had a look at the AsRock website and their new AM5 boards don't support ECC memory, like the AM4 boards did.
Is this because DDR 5 RAM has built in ECC memory?
The consensus sees to be that Nvidia is better (or at least faster) than AMD for video editing. I was just curious about why that is? The mechanics of it. Is it the clock speed? The cuda cores? The drivers? etc.
I don't game, but would rather support AMD than the greedy green team.
So, even...
Someone recently gave me an old HP optical drive. It's USB, but also has a wall adapter. But the adapter doesn't plug into the wall, it has a recessed female plug that I think I need to get a cable for.
Can anyone tell me what kind of plug this is, and what kind of cable I need for it?
Thanks.
I have a Samsung phone and am somewhat new to android. I find when I am doing job interviews on MS Teams or Google Meet, that I occasionally get messages or alerts that interrupt the meeting. Is there a way to block or mute all messages and notifications just before or while I'm waiting to...
What do you set your display system scaling % at to make things more readable?
- native resolution?
- 125%
- 150%
- 200%
I'm just trying to get an idea of whether you can get more usable real estate with a 27" 4K or a 32" 4K after factoring in scaling.
My version of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro is getting rather old and now that Acrobat has gone completely to a subscription model, it's too expensive. I use Acrobat mainly to do OCR and scanning of PDFs. I like some of the advanced features as well found only in the Pro version.
Are there any cheap or...
