Yeah I read that too, but was hoping since the Surface Laptop 4 was *just* released, I figured they haven't updated it yet either way.
I haven't been in the office for a while, so I don't have the dock in front of my to look. I thought it had the Surface port on it, but could be wrong. I'll end...
Have a Surface Laptop 2 for work, and am able to upgrade to the new Laptop 4. Just need to know if my current dock will work with it or if I need to upgrade that as well. Really don't want to if I don't have to.
Any idea what you'd want for the lot? I don't think I'd need all the RAM, but if the price is right I could take it all. Realistically they only need 8GB each, possibly 16GB each if he wanted to not worry about upgrading it later.
I have a friend that's looking to do 2 budget gaming PC's. One for his 7 year old daughter and the other for his 12 year old daughter. I have a few older graphics cards I'll toss in for him, they already have monitors, and they want to pick out fancy new cases with RGB. He will buy new power...
Thanks, I think I can make sense of that info. I really need to learn more about networking.
No, I don't want interruptions at all. Even very minor interruptions we have seen in the past when power goes out and we switch from primary to secondary firewalls have caused our software to lose...
No, we just remodeled and the computers are a little closer than before, but not much. I think I could get away with about 18 feet, but don't think 15 would do it. I'd have to try it I guess. It would be a tight run.
Hey,
I'm looking at going to a dual NIC setup at work. This would be 100% for redundancy, nothing else. One NIC would go to one switch, and the other NIC going to a backup switch in case of failure or power outage
Do I need to get a dual interface card, or can I just get another random NIC and...
Early next year I'll need to install 19 monitors that will be run at 4k 60hz. The current cables for them are 25'. I have a little slack, but don't think I can get down to 15', so I'll need to stick with 25'.
I understand that 4k/60hz is hard to keep past 15'. I need it to be DisplayPort, as...
^ No RAID. Specifically avoided RAID because they're not any kind of RAID drive, so they're just running independent.
I'll run some hardware tests when I get some time.
^^ Thanks, I might have to check that out.
I did just power it up and look, and for the last 2 times it did leave a trace in the Windows logs. It wasn't doing that before. No mini-dump to analyze because it's failing to write it. But it does appear to be blue screening, I just can't see it...
It's a clean install of Windows, so there's no HP software on it. I could boot to Ubuntu via USB and try that for a week, however I'd have to look into how to get my Plex library on it. I'd guess it's not that difficult.
Yeah...I thought about going that route. I'd really prefer to troubleshoot what it's doing though. Computer is still 2 years under warranty with HP. I've had them send a new power supply and new fans thinking it might be heat or power, but nothing there helped. I'm guessing that this point it's...
Hey,
I have a mini HP computer that I use as a small Plex server. It's just me and the wife, so I don't need anything fancy to run what we watch, and this does it great.
Anyway, it's not hooked up to a monitor, as I use it strictly as an RDP box to mange Plex. It is plugged into an HDMI port...
As title says, looking for a i7-4790 or better (Same socket, same gen, don't want to upgrade motherboard). My dad currently has an i5-4570 in his rig and is looking to play Fallout 76. I'm guessing the game will play okay without the upgrade, however I'd like to get him to at least minimum...
Wow I guess I wasn't aware of that USB 3.0 limitation. In that case the 8-bay is probably the best/cheapest option. I'd go with eSATA, however this PC I'm using doesn't have that built in and there's no way to add it. It's an HP EliteDesk Mini PC.
I'll check these options out. Not exactly what I wanted to do...but if it fits the bill then I'm okay with it.
I've checked these out. My main concern is that reviews stated (on the 8 bay model, I think I read it on Newegg) that if one disk is failing, the entire JBOD drops. I actually have...
Hey everyone,
I'm wondering if there's a good way to build something that will house 8 or more 3.5" drives and allow me to connect it via USB 3.0? I have a small powered micro PC already serving as a Plex Server, I just need to be able to connect more disks to it somehow.
I'm open to other...

Hello,
I'm looking for a working tablet for as cheap as possible. I have an iPad 2 now that's connected to an electric drum kit, its only purpose being to run YouTube so I can watch drum videos while I play. The iPad isn't working correctly and I don't want to mess with it anymore because I...
Yes! The new Corsair worked with no problems.
It's left me wondering if the Seasonic power supplies he tried were actually defective, or if he was doing something wrong. He's pretty smart (he got me on a good start to PC building about 20 years ago), so I don't think he messed it up. He hasn't...
Really? I'm going up to see him on Sunday (It's a 3 hour drive). I'll check this out. He got the new Corsair power supply about a week ago, but he doesn't want to try it until I'm there.
^Yes to most.
He didn't do the paperclip test. Really wouldn't matter much, either it works in the computer or it doesn't. I figured the first power supply was dead. Didn't know what to think when the second one didn't work. Since the old one has always worked he just went back to it each time...
Hey,
My dad got a new power supply for his build. Specs are:
EVGA Z87 FTW motherboard
i5-4670 processor
EVGA 970 graphics card
16GB DDR3 RAM
240GB Corsair SSD
500GB Samsung SSD
Random SATA optical drive
Old power supply: Thermaltake TR2 RX 750
New power supply: Seasonic Focus Plus SSR-750FX...
I didn't. I think the GPO applied as it should have, it just claimed the user didn't have rights to the drive, when they really did.
It kept working all through last night with the mapping leaving out the drive letter. I'll test it more today and see how it reacts...but I think it's solved. I...
Wow...it works if I leave out the drive letter I'm mapping and just add in the server name and folder.
Which is weird because this is what Group Policy is set to do. The Net Use drive mapping was correct. I always add the drive letter when I manually map it.
I don't get it. I'll have to try a...
^No. I just remoted into another Windows 10 computer using their account, and it worked as it should. Same network, same subnet, same user, just a different computer.
I can log into the computer in question as another user in the same group (not myself as the domain admin), and it will work...
