WTB: Nvidia A2000 or A4000 for CAD

Thanks for all the input. That's some pretty tight stacking right there. (y) However, the base price of the a4000 is $1182.92 on lenovo's site. They sell for $550-$600 on ebay, so unless there's a 50% savings, yeah nah. Same with the a2000. Lenovo is asking retail++. Bonkers.

Wow. It's incredible. He put multiple grounding points on his mat. Revolutionary! I bet Desco, Hakko, 3M and the plethora of other companies that actually produce esd mats with multiple grounding points for the past 40 years are now going to bend over and pay him. HA. I can't imagine how this...

Dug this guy up the other day. 1.2ghz PIII Celeron

I finally got around to sifting through my unsorted junk pile. I believe I found these chucked out by a local business just last year. Yes, last year. What a run. What to do with it? I'm not the kind of animal to chuck a good PCB to the wolves. I came up with some valid choices. Feel free to...

Article: CAMM, Dell's new SODIMM standard

Hmm. I guess I'm becoming an old man. Maybe I'm tired of the infinite walls of the hardware space. Maybe I should stop trying to make hardware myself. I used to be able to get literature and specs free in college. Alas, no more.

Article: CAMM, Dell's new SODIMM standard

Yup. This is great input. You guys are absolutely right. But there needs to be verifiable information why a new standard must be used vs just revising a current standard (clock retimers added to DP2.0 vs creating an entirely new video output interface). Where are my clock diagrams? Where is the...

Article: CAMM, Dell's new SODIMM standard

Does anyone have a link to the paper or working group study showing the downfalls of sodimm vs camm? I can imagine that reducing latency is important, but again, why not just update the sodimm spec? Why not just require tighter PCB trace routing and length matching requirements to reduce ringing...

Article: CAMM, Dell's new SODIMM standard

It's called dell DGFF. It was the dell proprietary MXM replacement that no one ended up using except dell. Thus, owners of extremely expensive workstation laptops were forced into only using dell only gpus. Before you could use any mxm-b or mxm-a module within reason (ones that supported LVDS...

Article: CAMM, Dell's new SODIMM standard

Oh man, this smells like the dell-only gpu format that was labeled as an "open" standard which promptly, no one adopted. They killed off mxm to make a few more bucks. HP still uses mxm in their highest end zbook. As an owner of many precision laptops, my current one will be my last.
