Did the same - upgraded from a Pixel 7 Pro to a Pixel 8 Pro + free Pixel 2 watch. While not a massive upgrade, I feel the improved screen, cameras (which are already amazing) and a bit better performance/battery life will be worth it.

If used regularly, I'd say 10 years is a good run. Caps sort of have a tendency to start crapping out at that point. May go a bit longer, but then you are running a dinosaur and can forget about playing most newer/modern games.

I’d caveat that to “which most older games are”… Multiple core CPUs have pretty much become the norm and many newer games are starting to leverage their capabilities, so I wouldn’t necessarily count out multicore performance, especially when it comes to future gaming.

Soft. Hard tubing isn't really [H]ard, it's more just for show/art and does nothing for performance/function. Hard tubing is less secure/robust and is much more prone to leaks due to material failure. Done right, it can really look great, but again, it's all for show.

Based on OP’s desire to keep the upgrade wallet hit in the sub $1000 range, this is solid advice. And will be a pretty big jump up from the Q6600. Going to an X670E mb with the very latest Zen4 CPU and DDR5 is going to have your wallet emptying out much closer to the $2K range…

Try a 42" LG OLED with font scaling boosted to 150%. No eye strain at all. Sounds like you are just trying to squint at too small of a screen.

Agree - if form factor isn't an issue and you are just after portable speed, then a true SSD dropped into a USB-C drive enclosure is going to give you the best performance.

The various USB standards just set interface protocols and compatibility - I don't believe they set/enforce any required minimum transfer speeds. They do typically provide for more performance capability/throughput though as they progress upwards with each generation, but it is up to the maker...

Why that monitor? For that price, especially if you are primarily gaming on MMORPG's, I'd suggest the LG 42" C2. The size difference between a 27" display and a 42" is also fairly significant. The LG C2 is glorious @ 120hz playing 4K games. Your CPU also has plenty enough chutzpah to handle...

Good advice here - getting either will utterly kill the balance you now enjoy. You won't be happy with the resulting gaming performance on a new 4K monitor and the new video card would pretty much be wasted on a 1440p monitor. And yes, the 4080 is way overpriced for what it delivers.
