Interesting up close in camera looks at reflections and comparison of the "glossy" (?) vs the "matte" (?). Sounds like we need a scale that is more precise like 30% AR / grain size .2microns or whatever. That "matte" screen looks more glossy than my...
I have been using my C7 daily watching news and sports with their logos, Dolby Vision content etc. As the living room TV it gets a LOT of use. I also have 8 other current oled screens between phones tablet laptops home and work pcs, but I get that everyone is different. I would still consider...
Interesting article from TFT but it read like a Samsung sponsored piece in some cases representing worst case scenarios. No mention of the black level issues in normal lighting conditions, lack of a polarizing layer / reflections and perceived contrast. Also I thought the new pixel structure was...
Before HDR, wide gamut was the wild west in that there was no software “mode” that told the OS that the color space was expected to be a wide gamut mode (HDR now requires/expects wide gamut color spaces). As a consequence most SDR images and all SD videos are SRGB mastered and look “wrong” in a...
I have a 32” monitor so I can see what integer scale looks like at 1080p. I play a lot of pixel art and retro games so I am pretty stoked for this mode assuming there will be a way to get retro arch to support it. May not be the same use case for everyone.
I was bummed when plasmas died out before I could get a really high end model, and the monitors sound even better. How do they do showing non native or lower resolutions like DVD (720x480) or pre HD consoles outputting SD video?
My local cable company uses a mix of contractors and employees to do repairs/ troubleshooting and installs. I had a bad experience once with guy who didn’t know what he was doing and left things in a worse state than he started and “misplaced” gear instead of returning it. Turned out to be a...
The new 2024 rgbw woleds text on the 32” looked really sharp in closeups - I am waiting for an in-depth review to see what it looks like compared to an IPS.
Regarding IpS glow, Inthought there was at least 1 new 2023 IPS monitor that brought back something like the old ips-tw polarizing layer to...
TFTCentral said there was upcoming news on glossy woled but that’s for 2nd half. In combination with MLA and proper pixel structure I’m still interested in what the Woleds look like in the 2nd half.
QD oled has no polarizing layer so without any AG it has both reflectiions and raised black levels. I dislike grainy matte AG so I hope the previews / impressions from CES where people spoke positively about upcoming next gen qd oled AG pans out. Still has the raised blacks issue in a bright...
There were over 30 OLED monitor models shown at CES this week including ones with dolby vision. The 32” models with panels from both samsung (panels already available ) and LG (2nd half) are both interesting. Several models have improved pixel structure like RGWB for woled which is much closer...
Sony already cofounded JOLED (with Panasonic) which unfortunately is not yet full geared up to mass manufacture big TVs. Their professional monitors are great though, and they completed a plant in late 2020, not sure what came of that.
To me this is ergonomically a perfect work monitor. It wil fit on a decent sized work desk (unlike 57” monitors) full 2160 height, 120hz! and color grading and viewing angles, proper RGB stripe. Sweet spot for DpI too (by my preferences). Price and HdR capabilities are a little disappointing but...
Beyond 2m (6.6ft) without fiber, cable quality starts to matter a lot more. You are way more likely to get blinks if it’s not a great cable at 10+ ft without an active cable so do a lot of checking before you buy a long passive cable.
Jensen is good at promoting shareholders’ interests and propelling the company forward (as his job entails) but bad as a spokesperson speaking to consumers and customers. Let someone else do that, JH.
The sad thing is oled is inherently very low persistence/ very fast rise time (1ms or less when optimized) so a dedicated Vr solution could theoretically use 1000hz blanking or rolling wipe mechanisms to exceed any other display device in perceived motion clarity with very minimal impact on...
I am surprised that there is no 16:9 monitor between 32 and 42 inches. I think a 37” size would be great personally, especially in offices. Strangely this used to be a common TV size but I guess everyone has moved on to newer sheet of glass sizes for the panel makers.
I have. I fully understand viewing angle and visual arc lengths. I have been setting up my home theater projectors and screens since the original LCOS machines and have written my own screen distance calculator. A 27" 1440p and 42" 4k monitor are not the same for me because like most people over...
I have a D2 top 1% ranking (not that that’s so great) and have dipped into the 0.1% rankings despite being an old ‘un. Only saying it because that’s my point of reference for playing 42” 120hz.
I used to be intensely into CS 1.6 and CSS and dipped out with CS:GO. I would probably switch back to...
I had both the original Voodoo and 2 Voodoo2 too (try saying that fast 😀) and the thrill of seeing 3d games running butter smooth with that special less grainy “voodoo” look was genuinely exciting at the time. The only slight bummer was the video pass through as I was already a bit of an image...
The other difference between brands is panel grade selection and mounting/monitor assembly. The former is the item to item quality of the panel with things like backlight uniformity and dead sub pixel guarantees and the latter can also affect uniformity.
You can adjust FOV to increase your viewable real estate in games that support it (basically a camera zoom feature) - most fps and tps games have an adjustment, but games won’t do it automatically based on different 16:9 resolutions, which makes sense.
Yeah I would definitely agree. My first reaction was dislike until I got used to it and used it instinctively. The main reason I brought it up is that there are 7.99 remotes on amazon with free shipping that look identical but without motion if anyone is looking for an option, but LG should just...
I had both the TNT and 2, bot died. I’m pretty sure the TNT had a very cheap fan that failed and killed it but don’t remember what the issue was with the TNT2.
I think both LG and Samsung Display (the panel making divisions not the monitor making divisions) are selling these 32” 4k 240hz panels to the usual suspects (MSI, Asus et al.)
I wonder if all the curved panels are from Samsung and all the flats from LG or if Samsung is making both?
Since LCDs have a fixed DPI and you have to choose big steps for scaling in windows - 125%, 150% etc. you may find one scale size too small and the other too large which was my particular experience with 27”. I had to use a larger scale size which effectively reduced the amount of readable text...
Square in. per zone is just a strange metric when comparing a monitor to a 85” tv IMO - pixels per zone or per degree to equalize view distance would show how much superior the 5000 zones would be all else being equal (and if anything I bet the FALD algorithm will be way better on the TV for...
I would recommend against a 27 4k with windows (IMHO) unless there’s a huge price gap for your selected 27 and 32” choice.
None of the scaling options looked just right to me with my first 27 4k and I ended up trading up to a 32” for work which is just more usable. I keep it at the same distance...
I’m with Zarathustra on this never heard of it or experienced it and I’m an 80s kid. I’ve parked my face in front of crts for extended periods of time and other than normal flushed face from dying 800 times in a row from missed jumps in TMNT or a heated game of Doom I don’t know anyone who...
