Have you updated your bios. My asrock board needed to be updated for the 7950X3D to behave correctly.

Nobaras KDE version has wayland on by default. Also has all the packages for gaming. The current release updates to KDE 6 and has HDR. I just read a guide to fix my HDR issue, so should be all good. I don't even play anything competetive anymore, so I probably won't need windows at home...

I have been using Nobara for a couple of weeks. Bought hell divers 2 and deep rock galactic for me and my son over the weekend. Both just worked. Updated to KDE 6 last night and really like it. Just wishing HDR support was in a better place.

Also boo hoo if the software fails to detect a game… you can always turn the other ccd off when it’s time to game. That’s what I did early on when I was playing a lot of Star citizen. 16 cores for renderings and simulations… then a bios toggle and you have a higher clocked 7800x3d for games.

I wouldn't say its better, its a bit faster in non gaming work loads. Gaming wise though the 7950X3D is quite a bit faster.

Only game I noticed an issue with was Star Citizen. Turning off the 2nd ccd gave me a decent boost.

This thread reminded me to check on the state of Linux. I installed Nobara Linux and it is looking good. Proton is trivial to enable in steam now. This weekend I am going to try to setup the steam deck ui for when I am playing on a controller on my tv.

I didnt have anything in the 2XXX generation, but my 1700 wouldnt run xmp. I had to put it at 2800 and raise the sub timinings. Its been years, but i remember 1T timing wouldnt work and subtimings had to be loosened.

I wouldn't be suprised if the xmp profile is failing the ram training test and it is defaulting to 2133. Set it to 2800 and try that.

Maybe a little old school, but I would try a clean install of windows.

I don't think they are doing that bad... Seems like development is snow balling. The game is at least an order of magnitude more ambitious than anything else ever attempted. I will start sharpening my pitchfork if it still has a single digit tick rate and the desync issues after server meshing.

Picked one up for the new house. Have a cx48 for my computer, so didnt need gsync and 120hz. Figured it was worth having an oled for the the living room even if only 48" at $550 rather than paying triple for a larger unit.

That has been my experience with VDDP,VDDQ,SOC, etc. They really didn't need to be raised. The board was setting them to something stupid like 1.3v and it was causing instability and much higher heat loads.

I am using using the controller since I am playing it in bed on my oled and also on my ROG Ally. I did see a mod though to add wasd movement and modified camera control to the game on nexus.

I am actually wanting to do vGPU. I want to share the gpu with a vm so that I don't have to use the IGPU for the host. Long ago you could hack the bios to allow it, but since they have been locked down it has been impossible.

Will this lead to us being able to enable virtualization? I have a 16 core with 64 gigs of ram. Banishing windows to a gaming vm is a wet dream of mine.

You can't get it to stick above 30watts with out changing the bios values like smokeless does. Just be careful 45 watts caused the ally to turn its self off after a couple of hours and it took a while to get it to turn back on. Played bg3 for 6 hours yesterday at 40watt and it was fine.

FYI you can boot smokeless off a flash drive and change the TDP of the ally. I mostly play plugged in and raising the TDP to 40watt and disabling some cpu cores and fixing the gpu clock gave me a pretty large boost in Baldurs gate 3.

I have the 2019 tube model and its getting long in the tooth. Performance issues with kodi. In general not enough ram and laggy menus. Downgrading the firmware would probably help, because it used to be fast before a few years of updates. Also the remote eats batterys and its a pain to keep...

I really don’t get all of the complaints online. I have the ally and the steam deck. As far as the OS goes it’s no different than any other windows machine that I have had. I remote into it or plug it into a USB’s hub with a monitor and network kvm for keyboard and mouse to set things up...

I am pretty sure the stutter was from the video ram being full. I know its been a while since most of us have had to squeeze into 16gb total ram. Hell I have 64 gigs of video ram and 24 gigs of video ram on my desktop. Last time I was close to that constrained was my GTX 970 build years ago.
