What do you mean "another" $500 ? I'm talking about buying from scratch. And no, the Raptor Lake refresh will not require a new mobo. It will be the same socket.
Even if a refresh got only a 200MHz uplift, that would put the 13900K to 6 GHz. If Intel could do that while keeping power draw and temps reasonable, it would be worth it.
Rumors now heating up that the RLR will come out in August this year. Hopefully we'll see some temp and power improvements, although I know more people are probably waiting for Arrow Lake and the next 14th gen redesign.

Either buy the cheapest base model Mac mini and return it within 15 days (make sure all the original packaging and accessories are in pristine condition), or buy a refurb cheapest base model Mac mini (if you don't like it, sell it). Back in 2009, I bought a refurb iMac just to play around with...
Question for anyone knowledgeable in physics: Is there any difference between having fewer but wider heat pipes (e.g. 8mm x 4 pipes) vs more but narrower heat pipes (e.g. 6mm x 7 pipes) ?
What is the SUPRIM line in the MSI Nvidia 3000 series line up? I've been over the specs and I can't discern what is different, if anything.
How does it compare to the Gaming X trio line?
I just want to future proof my build, as AV1 seems to be the future. But I need to buy hardware now, and don't want to have to re-buy a video card and/or CPU again in 2 years just to get the AV1 encoding.
Does AV1 encoding need to be supported by both the CPU and the GPU? (apparently 13th gen Intel CPUs don't support it, but AMD 7000 CPUs do). Also, if I bought an Nvidia RTX 3000 series GPU (which doesn't support AV1 encoding, only decoding) could I wait for a bios update from Nvidia, or would I...
Is AV1 encoding capability added via a bios update, an OS or browser update, or is it built into hardware? I don't quite understand.
I'm choosing parts for a new build now and this will be part of my consideration. So if it has to be implemented at the hardware level, I may wait, for example...
Thanks.
My impression from everything I've read is that Intel has better compatibility with more codecs (although I think with Alder Lake and Raptor Lake they dropped AV1 support?).
My usage will be 80-90% office work and about 10-20% video editing and 3-D modelling. So, I'm not sure how much...
I'm in the same boat. I don't game, but want to get into video editing and some 3-D modelling. I can't decide between an Intel i7-13700K or an AMD 7900x. I also plan to wait a while to get a graphics card. So my considerations are:
-Which CPU runs cooler and draws less power?
- Which CPU has...
Thanks. The other mobo I was looking at is the Asus ProArt B650 Creator.
1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 port (1 x USB Type-C®, shared with DisplayPort graphic output )
4 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports (3 x Type-A + 1 x USB Type-C®)
2 x USB 2.0 ports (2 x Type-A)
1 x DisplayPort (Input only)
1 x HDMI® port
1 x...
One of the mobos I'm looking at for my build is the AsRock B650 taichi. I don't see a spec for a DP output on the rear I/O
- 2 x Antenna Ports
- 1 x HDMI Port
- 1 x Optical SPDIF Out Port
- 1 x USB4 Type-C Port (40 Gb/s)*
- 3 x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A Ports (10 Gb/s) (ReDriver) (USB32_12 are...
Thanks. I'm in the midst of planning out my build.
I'll just be using integrated graphics for a while (Ryzen 7600x) until I get a GPU. So, I'm not sure whether to connect to a monitor through HDMI or USB-C (or USB4). I don't think there's a Displayport on the motherboards I'm looking at. Just...
This will affect my motherboard choice for my next build.
One mobo has USB4, and a new monitor I'm looking at has a TB4 port. It made wonder if there is much difference between the ports/cables in terms of picture quality or any other consideration.
Interesting, I found this from a test site.
"The Dell U2723QE has disappointing black uniformity. There's noticeable backlight bleed along the bottom edge, which is distracting in dark scenes. Sadly, all the local dimming zones are on, so it doesn't change the black uniformity. Keep in mind...
I've been looking at monitors with the new IPS Black technology. There are only a few monitors that have it so far, the Dell U2723QE (and larger U3223QE), the HP Z32k G3, and the LG 32UQ85R-W.
The Amazon reviews for the Dell U2723QE are not very good (mostly related to backlight bleed and...
I like the current line up of B650 boards. and can't afford to go to the higher end x670 ones.
Both B650 boards are on sale now. Can't make up my mind.
The AsRock Taichi is $200 more, but has a USB4 port (not just a header), clear CMOS button (not just a header), and better audio. Not sure...
Is it worth paying 50% more going from a FOCUS series to a PRIME series? And is it worth paying more for a Titanium vs Platinum? I'm inclined to say no, but I'm open to being convinced otherwise.
Hmm....so do you foresee Zen 5 continuing the trend started by Zen 4 of running at around 90° - 95°C ?
I thought there was a correlation between thermals and wattage, no? My only concern is wanting to still be able to use air cooling on future CPUs, and not have to adopt liquid cooling.
I realize not much is known about Zen 5 yet, but just reading the snippets of info about it so far seems to indicate that AMD's emphasis for Zen 5 will be on power efficiency, with a rumored separation between performance cores and efficiency cores (like Intel). So maybe Zen 5 will idle at a...
So I'm looking at various mobos and part of my decision will be based on the audio codec. Would like to get the best onboard sound quality without going to an external DAC (which I might get later). I'm not up on the latest codecs and could use help determining which is better.
- Realtek ALC...
I haven't used the AMD platform yet, but am planning to get a Ryzen 9 7000 series soon. I was just wondering...are eco mode and PBO both in the bios settings? And are they both just one-step toggle? Or does either one involve another step/click?
The 7900, for example, with PBO is essentially the same as the 7900x at stock. Same thermals, power draw, and performance. You could get the 7900x and put it on eco mode and it would be the same as the 7900. Or, you could get the 7900 and boost it with PBO and it would be the same as the 7900x...
