As predicted: Windows as a PPV service...

Only since they announced Win8 and the SCo-Linux debacles, have I predicted that 1) Windows would go pay-per-view Windows-as-a-service, and 2) they would roll Linux into the OS, possibly turning the OS into a version of Linux. Seems like it's gonna come true. Imagine that.

Telecom Lobbyists Successfully Remove Canada from Wireless Pricing Report

And there's the rub: I spend alot of time on highways in rural areas with an absolute need for phone & data connectivity. AT&T/Verizon may be a bunch of shitbags to deal with, but they're the only games with significant coverage across the US.

Windows 10 users fume: Microsoft, where's our 'local account' option gone?

I have to agree with this. My last attempt to run Linux was a fail because I couldn't get my favorite games to run under it. :-(

When they break down your door and arrest you for saying something "wrong"/owning some digital media someone decides you can't own anymore/having data on your drive some malware out there that implicates you in a crime, you just might rethink that position.

Telecom Lobbyists Successfully Remove Canada from Wireless Pricing Report

I'm paying over $200 for two lines and tethered data to a tablet, and alleged unlimited data at AT&T, and I don't have any other choice other than Verizon, and their prices are about the same. His $160Cdn is about $120US, which to me makes his plan a pretty damned good deal. I would love to be...

So do I. It's a nice system. However, I'm wondering if I need to get rid of Win10, because of all the problems that keep rearing their ugly heads.

Yup, pulled the trigger on a Hades Canyon setup, jrobdog here decided to sell his 65w version, fully kitted out, for $600, and I'm quite pleased with it:

SFF in a big rig???

Tell me about it: backing is my worst enemy. I do everything I can to either find pull-thru parking, pull-in (nose-first), or paid parking (yes, it's a thing) with loads of room so I don't have to jackknife the thing into a spot. And then there's the oversize loads:

SFF in a big rig???

Right now, my limitation at home is the x5670 at stock speeds, most new games & CPU-bound games don't like it. Start with the NUC and move up, but not too far. The cube cases are too big, but a console-sized one would work.

SFF in a big rig???

Budget? I'd like to stay under $1000, but that's flexible. I've already got a acreen: I could make a mount for either of the cases you suggested, and hang it from the wall mount behind the TV. The appeal of the NUC is I can velcro it to the back of the TV, and toss it in my backpack when...

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

So here comes the Stupid Question of the Day (SQotD): How the hell do I overclock this bitch? Asus P6T Deluxe, X5670, Hyper 212, 12GB RAM. I've never done this before, and don't know what tools I need to do it. Again, as usual, thanks in advance.

It's that triple-channel memory that helps them run so sweet, there's alot of bandwidth there that we just don't get to see because of the other bottlenecks. Load these babies down wil lots of ram, minimize the disk bottleneck, and it'll rock hard.

    "Portable" gaming: NUC or laptop?

Heat sinks vibrating off aren't exactly an issue, unless it's a tower, which would neento be secured; but the connections themselves can vibrate loose, and the PCI connections can be problematic, too. Given how hard those rigs can move in certain situations, I could see how cards and components...
