ION Fury

REEEEEEEEEEEEEsetEra.

I bought it on Steam, but I'm still within the refund window, so I'll be refunding that and getting the GOG version.

Good for you but I have 6 hours according to Steam. Are they really going to "patch" the game by removing content? Whatever the fuck happened to 3d realms.

Do they have any evidence of the game being transphobic?

I played through the entire game. Nothing about it is transphobic. The main character, shelly, insults the main villian quite a bit by calling him a 'Bald headed bitch' among other things.

The reality is that people who don't have jobs and sit around doing nothing all day are going to do what they are going to do and invent issues.

Apparently it was a shampoo bottle in game with the label "Ogay"

It's smaller and smaller things each time. Just don't say you weren't warned a few years ago, that if you give a finger they'll take an arm. And apparently 3d realms is more than happy to throw their entire body at them. Well they certainly earned a place on the "get woke go broke" blacklist.

It's not just that. There was at least one person complaining about the bad guys being "transhumanist," and that leaped to the conclusion that they are synonymous with "transgender" with an attractive main character called "Bombshell" killing them all and therefore the premise of the entire game was "transphobic."

So they'll patch out the main bad guy and the protagonist? :D

I weep for the future.

If only there was a game where you could kill endless swarms of straight white males in order to balance out atrocities like this.

We'll see what happens. There is a sticky now on the Steam community forum saying they won't be censoring the game, just "correcting" some messages. I'm sure after the updates happen people will be comparing it to the original to find out if they messed with anything else besides the shampoo bottle that is now a pariah.

Are we sure that's not just a marketing campaign? These people don't make a lot of sense. I know the type as I used to visit GAF before the exodus, but that's just crazy

Yes, people like that are real. I know many of them as I grew up in an affluent suburb of Chicago. Most of them are trust fund kids that don't do anything, and sit around all day talking about this stuff like it's a real issue because they have nothing better to do.

Marketing for what purpose? To get twitter points? Because those type of people weren't going to play this type of game anyway.
If they get their way they just move on to bitch about something else without a second thought about the thing they just ruined for everyone else.

Well, popularity. Not saying those people aren't real. Just that I don't trust the power of public outrage when it comes to such things. Am I out of touch?

Game is getting review bombed on GOG. First time I've seen that happen there - I wonder how GOG will handle it. Didn't Steam take measures to prevent this a while back since it was becoming so prevalent there?

Steam's measures were just lip service. They did nothing when Assassin's Creed Unity was being review bombed with good reviews when Ubisoft gave it away for free after the cathedral fire.

I stumbled on a nasty bug. Since the quick save/load functionality is somewhat clunky*, I had just deleted all saved games, then fought the ED-209 clone. I believe I killed everything too quickly, via a single crossbow overload, and that somehow caused the game to not trigger the walls blowing up and letting me into the tunnel.

Tried every trick I could think of. Mainly pushing thrash cans all over the arena in hopes of jumping over. With a save made just after the fight, I had to start over.

* It forces you to go through 3 or 4 steps before actually overwriting a quick save state on each game session

Them catering to the cry babies never made sense. A bunch of SJW-types were never going to buy this game to begin with.

Given the amount of crying over the change I find your comment pretty funny.

I didn't cry over the change, and wouldn't have changed my 10/10 review on Steam for the game either as the change itself was so small that I really didn't care, and I want the game to succeed.

The point here is that a 90's shooter that is most close to Shadow Warrior and Duke 3D was never built for the SJW-Crowd that would never play an old school FPS to begin with. They would have been better off with this entire thing just ignoring the idiotic SJW complaints. It would have dropped after 24 hours when the outrage mob moved onto the next SJW related thing in the news media, and everyone would have been happy.

I'm fully on board with people crying about the SJW-induced changes after they had already purchased the game. The actual customers of said product care about the product. People that were never going to buy an old school FPS to begin with are, and should be irrelevant.

I do think the gags were kind of juvenile, but it fits with the Duke Nukem aesthetic.

Also, they managed to piss off everyone on both sides, so at least they took a stand here.

"I came here to cause controversy and chew bubblegum... and I'm all out of bubblegum"

I don't like that the game was review bombed, because the change was in all reality so small that it wasn't going to change the general tone of the game. I think it's an inmature way to deal with it. If you aren't happy with the changes just vote with your wallet. Steam will do infrequent refunds on games played longer than two hours.

those people are hilarious, I love telling that to them and to get a f’n job. So many banned accounts on snowflake sites.

I don't know why this game exists. Its the exact same formula with snappy comebacks done with what, the original graphics engine? To get the retro style? It makes no sense

Depends on who you are and your influences. This looks more like a video game to me than something with amazing face capture realism technology that muddles Hollywood CGI and games. With modern computers it probably wouldn't take a whole lot of time to make new games like this which would be a bonus compared to the 5-6 years of developer time and requiring a small army of programmers with a huge budget. Who remembers a title launching then its sequel coming out within a year or two?

They released this as digital download and optional Big Box with a hardcopy, something lost during the all digital STEAM age.

Beige computers and CRTs.. now if they only start doing cool stuff with hardware accelerated sound then I would go find an Aureal Vortex for sale. Old PC specific game engines with some modern tricks, I quit looking towards the future of PC gaming post 2008. I have considered switching back to a 4:3 monitor as well, I miss the interactive UIs and artstyles that PC once had.

Restrictions & Creativity.

Some of these idiots don't have two good working neurons to rub together. All it takes is 1 moron to ruin everything .just give them the middle finger.

Btw one great game. Not playing a patched game.get a refund and go gog.this is ass.

Just finished the game on Ultra Viscera. Took me a total ot 21 awesome hours, including my start over.

They should start working on a Duke Nukem spin off right away. Game's amazing but Duke has jetpacks and cooler weapons.

I finally got around to starting this game up a couple of days ago. Such good fun. Man, I should have fired this up sooner. I've been in a bit of a gaming rut for a few months due to work, and only recently started playing Terminator: Resistance which I ended up liking a lot.

I'm missing secrets at the end of every level, lol. Did anyone actually try to find them all without a guide or walkthrough? Not sure I have the patience for that, and I'm normally somewhat of a completionist. Is there a reward for doing so, other than what you find in the secret areas?

Yeah, I had a lot of fun with this too. Didn't finish it, I have to go back cause it was pretty good.

Just finished the last level tonight. Time completed was around the same as dgz above...GOG reported 20.5 hours. A really good game to jump in and out of as time permits and nudge it along (took me just over a month of doing it this way). Though there were many instances when I'd only have an hour or two and didn't want to stop playing.

This game was great fun and can be very challenging. There is no health regen and some of the enemies can deal some pretty brutal damage.

I'm really digging this old school throwback FPS vibe so probably going to pick up Dusk and/or Maximum Action while they're on sale (Steam, til March 2nd). Amid Evil looks great, too.

Maximum Action is really good, but I played through all the levels in like a half hour (hopefully it will be much longer when finished).

Oh, man. Thanks for the heads up on that. It looks awesome, but that's waayy too short.

When did you play it? I wonder if they've added more since then. I might do a little more research because if what you say still holds true, I'll definitely wait for either more to be added or a deeper discount on the game.

That was a few months ago. I do see they made some updates, just played one of the new levels.

Also, I was using the cheat menu to give me unlimited life/ammo. If I was playing for real and died, it would probably be much longer (I don't think the campaign is finished).

Was thinking about picking this up, but playing old shooters like Doom or Outlaws nowadays gives me motion sickness. Wondering if I would get it with a retro shooter as well.

You might. I definitely do, and this game does it to me. Have to play in small chunks before I blow big ones, which is why I have yet to finish this.

You can turn off the walk head bob, which is a huge part to the motion sickness aspect.

But I recommend this game 100%. I play through it regularly, it’s absolutely outstanding and one of the best shooters ever made IMO. The graphics are insanely good as well when you consider the limitations of BUILD engine.

Takes me back to when I played the original Dark forces. =).

It is interesting how retro engines are coming back.
