Amazon has the 5950x at MSRP

Damn - looks like it didn't last very long... it will add to cart, but now won't let you purchase anymore... still, I got luckily and scored one before they ran out...

Head's up, Amazon has the AMD 5950x at MSRP for purchase here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0815Y8J9N

Note: Scroll down under the buying option and choose Amazon.com as the seller for $799 (The item defaults to a third part/higher cost seller.)

ETA is June 24th!

Thank you. I almost grabbed it since it finally fell under $980 in the scalper market... Decided to hold out for a couple more weeks...

Love ya man.

I was able to add it to cart and buy it just now, I don't need it so I'll probably cancel the order shortly unless someone here wants it.
Amazon-5950X.jpg

I really don't need it, but life is short and I sort of "settled" for a 5900x back in January when I tried and failed to get my hands on a 5950x (not without resorting to scalpers, which I refuse to support)
Looking forward to finally "completing" my rig... and the 5900x I have will go up for sale on the [H] at a non-scalping price once the 5950x checks out.

Be weary on how Amazon ships it... I received mine like this. After alot of complaining, I was able to get $80+ off for the damage. Thankfully no damage to the actual CPU.
Yeah, I recently received a CPU from amazon, and they shipped the retail box in a bubble mailer. It looked pretty roughed up.

in contrast, I also recently received a CPU from B&H and it was shipped in a box with a good amount of cushioning. The CPU's retail box looked nearly immaculate.

Which coolers are you using? Was debating about moving the U12A from the 3900x over.

Right now I have a Corsair 240mm AIO on it but am running it without PBO.

Noctua thinks the U12A is acceptable for the highest boosting:

Thanks, I looked up a few more reviews and believe I will be fine keeping the U12A. I would plumb everything up and go back to water cooling, but my current GPU doesn't have a water block.

Also, with the shortage of components, I would hate to have a drip and be out of a computer for 2+ years.

makes me wonder if certain products could ship to retailers with flat shipping boxes that would be used instead of whatever the retailer can come up with. So when it comes time to ship they just take the shipping box, unfold it and its good to go.

damn you i almost bought another but stopped myself as need the 5000 apus doing a linux itx build in my current rig. but its good to see these coming back in at non scalper prices.

damn you cleaned up! grats on this. still tempted evertime i see these back instock ><

Following up - Amazon came through in just 10 days! Brand spanking new 5950x in perfect shape for $799. Looks like they also started using actual "Made to fit" boxes instead of shipping with padded envelopes. :p

I visited https://amazon.com/thisbox and was greeted with this:

Improving Our Packaging

Sustainable packaging is a top priority at Amazon. Our goal is to deliver products undamaged to customers while minimizing our environmental impact. To do this, we use a science-based approach that combines lab testing, machine learning, materials science, and manufacturing partnerships to scale sustainable change.

Apparently it takes lab testing, application of materials science (really? It's a fucking cardboard box!) and AI to come up with a box that fits and protects its contents for shipping. Absolutely amazing how anything got done in the world before AI. How did we ever get by? Gosh, we were so stupid before AI came along. Hey Francis! Know what? The lab guys say that their AI has concluded that using a box that holds the contents securely while providing some crush resistance will actually result in fewer shipping problems, damage, partial refunds and returns from customers. Imagine that!
Amazon, welcome to the year 1817. (the year the cardboard box was invented)

Oh, I know. Originally, the AI decided that shipping 5950X's in envelopes was the right thing to do because the product is lightweight and the padded envelope is more sustainable, cheaper, and takes slightly less shipping space (especially after crushing, amiright guys?). Over time the AI was informed through product feedback, returns, and refunds from hundreds of angry customers that the padded envelope wasn't good enough to protect the product. So the negative reinforcement algorithm in the AI upgraded the packaging to a cardboard box. It only took a few hundred pissed off customers to make the upgrade. Thanks, AI!

Dude! The forum's AI bot just contacted me - it got an IM from the Amazon AI and was asking if you could please switch to using medication table A-2c instead of your normally prescribed medication table. :D

Seriously though, having/using an AI to choose what size/type box should be selected and used when packaging a specific product rather than letting a human use their common sense sounds very dystopian to me... then again, it probably bypasses a lot of the dimmer bulbs out there that are doing this kind of work... so at least it will be sort of consistent. And once all the negative feedback has been applied and it has had a chance to evolve a few generations or so, we can then all welcome our new Amazon AI overlords.

I know my post sounded stupid, but that was how it hit me when I read the web page. But you are right. The AI could work with a box making machine that can cut and fold a larger piece of cardboard into a box that is practically any size to fit the product(s) being shipped. Definitely helpful for the warehouse workers. Instead of choosing box A1, A2, A3 or B1, B2, etc., the right size box can be used for every package, automatically. Provided the raw cardboard sheeting can be used efficiently without too much waste, it could save money on raw cardboard materials, packing materials (noodles, airbags, etc. for the empty space inside the box), and utlimately result in a smaller box which saves space in the truck/airplane.

Anyway, my previous post and this one was a bit off topic, so I'll stop. I am glad that Amazon is finally using a real box to protect $800 CPUs and that you got yours intact. My 5950X from Amazon last month came in a plastic bag that thankfully was not crushed in shipping. I was lucky. I wish you good luck with your build! The 5950X is pretty amazing.

I try to combine stuff every chance I get on there, I hate receiving 15 separate different plastic mailers when it all could have been in fewer recyclable boxes.

Looks like most will soon be able to get one if they want it. What a difference 6 months makes.

Huh, I guess that's good. I was on the list for one with B&H and just stopped getting their notifications a few weeks ago. Normally, I get an email weekly or bi-weekly telling me that it's still not in stock, but not anymore.

Cool. As a Photag, I've bought from B&H for many moons. And have the Payboo card to save what for me is 10+% sales tax. I'm on their 5950 waitlist, as well as for a couple RTX 3000 GPU's.

But I scored a 5950x a week ago, cash in hand, unopened box, for $800. So, I be a happy camper...or will be if and when a 3070 or something of that ilk miraculously appears in my order list!!

i ordered one off walmart.com about a hr ago for msrp they stayed in stock for a good hr or 2 so they musta had a good truck load of them will see if it gets shipped later on and not canceled or anything.

As of last night, they were in stock at AMD's website. MSRP.

That's longest stock has lasted in months.

Just installed mine from walmart these are little heaters but im liking the pbo ccd2 stays in low 60-70s but ccd1 hits 80c.

Amazon has them back in stock again @ $799.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0815Y8J9N

I think the dam has finally burst and supply is finally catching back up to demand. I also see them available elsewhere like B&H, albeit for a bit more ($829)

If you are on the fence about this CPU coming off of an older Intel CPU, don't be. This thing is ungodly powerful. :D

I bought mine June 5. Claimed a mid July date, then June 25, and delivered June 20. I'm just waiting for the x570S boards to hit retail availability. Indeed, the bubble seems to have burst.

Finally got mine, seems to arrive in better condition than other folks.

Funny, the 3950x is listed for $819.99 on amazon right now. B&H Photo has the 5950x for $829.99 right now as well.

I just flipped one on ebay. Netted $575, or $145 profit. Open box, new otherwise. I'd just scored a new 5950x for $800 cash.
