I downloaded Win 10 ISO using Linux Mint a few days ago. Accidentally shut computer down and file was lost. Now MS download is not working. Is there a way to reset or another place to download?

There is a USB creation tool Microsoft has. Google the windows 10 creation tool and it will download the ISO for you and create a usb.

if that^^ doesnt work, clear your browser cache and try again.
That doesn't work and clearing Firefox browser cache doesn't help. It says click 64 bit version button. Then little dialog box says it's beginning, but nothing happens.

Add block? If you can't get it, give me a few and I can throw it on my NAS and give you access.

look in the downloads and see if its listed still. if so, delete it. could install edge/chrome if you cant get it working.

That's not going to work under Linux Mint?

I would imagine he could use a Linux boot usb to download the ISO again. My concern would be creating a bootable windows USB after. I don't know the tooling within Linux well enough

If you visit the ISO download page/USB creation tool page in Chrome and set your User Agent to iPhone (using dev tools), you will be given a direct ISO download link.

But you still can't run the official media creation tool...

The problem I've found with third party bootable media creation tools under Linux (and MacOS/Windows) is they try to burn media using FAT32 and the Windows ISO is now too big for FAT32 - So your bootable media works fine under a normal legacy BIOS, but isn't recognized under certain UEFI's. However, I know there are workarounds that involve a GPT as a FAT32 partition and install the ISO under an NTFS partition on the same thumb drive.

If it's an ISO, just dd it to your usb drive and it'll probably work.

Any Win10 x64 ISO and Rufus or Etcher is all you need, Etcher is stupid easy.
https://www.balena.io/etcher/

Etcher copies images to drives byte by byte, without doing any transformation to the final device, which means images that require special treatment to be made bootable, like Windows images, will not work out of the box.

The same goes for DD...

IIRC Rufus creates a bootable image which is why it's not so good to use with linux ISO:s as it messes up things. It's also possible to make the image bootable when using dd but that requires changing a flag using command line...

EDIT 3: Rufus isn't supported under Linux...

...But it does seem to run fine under Wine...

...Scratch that. It runs fine, but you can't select media to attach the ISO to, even if you go to the mount folder...

DD struggles where UEFI is involved.

Some people say that for some time, they just download windows 10, install, pass the validation number part and it just works. Doesn't need to be paid or validated.
Not sure, but you already sold your soul for W10 so maybe they don't ask you anything more.

I kind of feel fooled. I just paid a month ago full licence fee for a brand new Windows 10 I downoaded from M$ shop.

It works without a key only for a few days, then starts nagging for one. If you're comfortable with a nag text and black background, you never need a key.

You can still set a background by r.click. The nagging and watermark can be disabled by registry tweaks.

I'm pretty sure the install is only good for 30 days as well. I haven't tried it, but I have heard things in the DC community.

Well, so I'm about 150 euros poorer for no reason. :(
I only used Windows 10 3 days for e-learning. I may use it probably in March for the same reason for another 3 days and probably in june or july exactly the same.
Quite sure I won't have the vaccine until then. It's kind of crazy that in France, governement is inventing and maintaining a dispute that nobody cares about who's going to have the vaccine, how and when, debating while all the vaccines, hundred of thousand have been delivered by Germany long ago. I'm quite sure some vaccines will become obsolete while those crazy guys will still be debating and still giving vaccines at the pace of 500 per week (yes believe it or not this is how fast it's going in France). In the mean time, I'm kind of stuck. Very difficult to have meetings and all the projets are still artificially down in lockdown. Also it's impossible to meet people in the administrations. It's kind of continuous vacation for them. All my business is down, but still I have taxes and social charges that didn't disappear, and an expensive professionnal insurance to pay etc etc. All my savings will vanish around mid 2021 at this pace. Also professionnal training is still mandatory. Win 10 PC may serve another couple of times. Just hate Win 10 so much. I'm still on Win 7 with all the professional software around it and for some time in the future.

cool store. whats it got to do with the thread?

Jandor- those who dont have to activate like that most likely are installing on an OEM system like dell/hp etc. otherwise there is no legal way to just not enter a key and use windows 10.

It's as legal as using a 5 dollar Ebay key :D

It's perfectly legal to use Win 10 without a key, you just lose some features and get a watermark.

Or maybe they're just saying. I didn't have time to test. However, I don't think I'll be using any other Win 10 since I don't have any use apart for e-learning and the software that needs to be used then. So I own one Win 10 and it's okay. I own another on Bootcamp on a Macbook but I blocked the updates since it trashes my legal software and I have to ask for new validations or my be even render the software incompatible, which works great now.

Not sure but I could also put that PC at use with Windows 10 for gaming on Steam, if I could get an acceptable low profile gaming graphics card (GTX 1650 LP are non available anymore or at ridiculously high price).

However, my process to install Windows 10 to download from M$ was not great at the first sight. First thing, first, you need to create an account at M$. When I tried, M$ recognized my email and told me I already had one. I just forgot I did, but they remembered. It was years old.
So what I did is to call for a guy on the chat system and he helped me completely create a new password, and even buy the OS, sending me the link to download the OS and how to put it on an USB key. The way to install and create the USB is not very clear because the questions are not very clear. The guy chatted me how to do it, and what option to chose. After I Finshed, I just plugged the key and installed the system.
The system is all rubbish, inexpensive, refurb. I bought a motherboard A320M, I akready had a Ryzen 1600X that got replaced elsewhere, I already had 2x8GB DDR4 2400 ECC RAM (I checked motherboard was making use of the ECC ram which it does), I already had an old Antec SFX box, a 256GB Curcial MX5 I never used, 1 super-old 500GB HD, and I also had an old GT 730 slim card. So it cost 50 euros for the motherboard and 145 euros for Windows 10 Home. So Windows 10 Home cost me 3/4 of the system. I could go on websites for Win 10 at 10 euros but read about troubles you could have like the systme blocking or checking for new key and having to wait days before the store would provide you with new keys. Days and uncertainties I couldn't afford. So using not validated Windows 10 would have been the best option apart from buying one.

Big question about the Windows 10 I bought. I suppose I can transfer the licience of that version to any other PC I may wish to as many times as I want to. Isn't it ? This is like the old box version I suppose. Unlike the OEM version, which is Europe si legally considered as a box version but not by the book of M$ who makes some difficulties.

I suppose for my small use it would have been acceptble. However I'm not sure Microsoft Teams would have allowed it. It's actuelly using my M$ account based on my email.

I always download my Windows ISO directly from Microsoft as a .iso by making internet explorer think it is a iPad browsing the site. So I am able to directly download a .iso file instead of the stupid tool. Have feeling once I say this that will go away :(

Bingo, or they have already activated windows 10 before on that same hardware.

the update tool will make you an iso, no need for all that.
