Is Windows 22H2 officially released already?

Yes 22H2 has been released already. The primary method of distribution is via Windows Update, where it is being released as a phased rollout. That means not all computers will be offered the 22H2 update via Windows Update right away. If your computer isn't being offered the upgrade yet, that is normal and does not indicate a problem. Anyone who wants to install 22H2 manually can do it by doing an in-place upgrade using any of the methods available on the Windows 11 Download page (Upgrade Assistant, Media Creation Tool, or ISO download).

Thanks. I forgot to mention that I'm still on Windows 10, and I have zero interest in going over to Win 11 right now (or for a long time from now).

Is this a not so subtle way of "mobilizing" us to migrate to Win 11. [I hope I'm not being too subtle here.]

Feature Updates have been routine occurrences for both Windows 10 and Windows 11 for a long time. Do you believe that there is something different about 22H2; anything that would explain your rather strange accusation?

I never got the option in Windows Update (assuming I had to wait longer) so I just downloaded the ISO, mounted it, and went through the inplace upgrade that way. Worked great.

22H2 is how Windows 11 should have been at launch. No clue why they rushed it out the door last year - it's not like it's a new revenue stream. There still aren't many compelling reasons to upgrade vs. Windows 10, but at least things are more or less feature complete + polished now.

when's the next major update for Windows 11?...Fall 2023?

I thought MS switched from twice a year to once a year for the major OS updates?
afaik there will still be spring updates but the fall ones will be the ones adding more features. i could be wrong. google it i guess.

Major feature updates (such as the 22H2 update) will be less often now. Probably just once per year. However, they are also introducing smaller updates, which they have decided to call "moments" (dumb name IMO, sounds like a word you would use to describe when Biden makes a new gaffe). These "moments" are small to medium sized updates that will be released up to 4 times per year, in order to roll out certain features more quickly. This is good overall, as it doesn't really make sense to have to sit on certain features for half a year just so they can fit them into a huge feature update.

But it doesn't really change much from a practical standpoint. Just check for updates each Tuesday and install what is available.

the 22H2 update barely even qualifies as a major update...seems more like one those 'Moment' updates

After this update my audio was not even defected by Sound Blaster as it said no device connected. Luckily a simple reboot fixed it though. And for some damn reason every single big update makes my audio switch to 5.1. I don't have nor have I ever had a 5.1 system yet this nonsense has been happening for years now starting with Windows 10. There are plenty of people that would never even know what the problem is and just think their audio is broken.

I made the USB installer, tested the other day, 22H2 was the version, I did have to do the 'no thank you' workaround for creating the local account during install

Tell me how many seconds windows 11 boots for you?
So go to search, msconfig or system configuration, then click on startup and then on open task manager.
The last bios time information is displayed there.

Something has increased recently, does it depend on the disk capacity? I currently have 132gb/463gb, Windows 11 is on that disk, and I still have two, one sata and one USB external which is constantly connected via USB.

guys guys, windows 22h2 just became available to me...

usb drives being connected will slow down boot time
and? you just said you dont want it...

I didn't know that about the usb drive
What did I say that I won't, I said that I will wait when it comes to me in windows update, i.e. when it is offered to me automatically, i.e. I didn't want to take over myself.
This is an essential update because this update supposedly enables the asus strix soar card to work normally.
The last time I put strix soar, it literally killed my computer, horror, I can barely get into windows and then the cursor and everything freezes.

everything connect via usb has to be polled at post, the more stuff connected the longer posting/booting can take, plus usb drives get checked to see if they are bootable.
i guess you did say "wait for it", i just took that wrong.
i doubt that, bad drivers maybe but the card is not a "windows 11" only device.

then it's a pcie slot, i don't have room in pcie x1, i.e. the nvme disk cooler bothers me
all I have left is pcie 2 x16, and obviously it won't work there and it's killing the gpu
in pcie x1 the sound card worked

I can't put the sound card in PCIe 2.0 x1 because the thickness of the nvme cooler bothers me, I can only put it in PCIe 2.0 x16, but should it work there too?

I solved the update to 22h2, one piece of advice, download the wise registry cleaner to optimize ssd disks, namely such a large installation always returns some things to the beginning, so it is necessary to optimize the disks, especially those that are sata.(prefetch and so on,system tuneup)
It also happened to me that it brought back cortana and some things that I had turned off and that I don't use at all. Now they are activated again, so it is necessary to turn them off again.

And if you don't want to go back to the previous installation (I certainly don't want to), start free up disk space (control panel, system and security).
In the end, some 16GB of disk space is freed up and the capacity returns to what it was before.

I don't know why, but I lost the cover image(desktop image), they put a completely black background,I guess that happens to me with every major upgrade.

yes
all that is normal and you do not need to do a "registry clean" before updating either.

I always clean the registry and optimize the ssd, it speeds up my computer....
If I get time then I will try asus strix soar if it works in pcie x16, if not then I will break it out of anger.
they said from asus that it will work in win 11 22h2

How do you actually optimize an SSD, since there are no moving parts?

Install free Wise registry cleaner,it's not just trim, there are a lot of other options as well
I use these optimizations since Windows 7
Mostly applies to sata disks and accelerates turning off and turning on the computer.

The first time after I installed 22h2 I have normal startup, until now I always had selective startup.

My last bios time is 14.5 seconds
before it was smaller, about 11, but then the memory was at 3200MHz and it was 16gb without other disks, and selective start up, now it is normal start up with 32gb of memory and 2933MHz

I'm showing 5.4 seconds, my last boot was from being powered down. I don't think my boot speed decreased after 22H2. I did "upgrade" to Windows 11 22H2 from a USB key built using the MS ISO tool. Not a clean install, just didn't want to wait for the update to be pushed through Windows Update.

I'm on an i7-9700K with 16GB RAM at 3000MHz using the RAM's XMP profile. I do only have PCIe SSDs, no mechanical drives, and only a PCIe GPU installed. I do know that Windows booted faster for me after removing a Sound Blaster X-Fi PCIe card, so it seems that add-in cards can affect boot speed. I have a mouse, keyboard, and Xbox controller USB receiver connected, no USB printers. Some USB printers may also act as a USB drive so that users can install the software and drivers from the printer after it's connected, so consider that.

Things I do that probably affect boot speed:
- Use 'fast boot' in the UEFI settings. I think my Gigabyte Z390 board has full, fast, and ultra fast options for boot, I use the 'fast' option.
- In Windows power settings "Define power buttons...", uncheck fast startup, sleep, and hibernate options.

I think it mostly depends on the processor, intel is better than amd(my ryzen 2700x), it was never under 10 seconds for me.
I have that fast boot in the bios, but as far as I know, I always set it to disable because it supposedly causes some problems with AMD.And there are no such levels, only enable or disable.

How long is the boot time for you on amd, i.e. on a 5000 series processor?
I won't even ask about these new ones...
Otherwise I didn't get to try the strix in 22h2, some guy called and it turns out that I sold it, I'm sending it by post tomorrow,
