Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

I use the anaconda, but yeah more ships would be nice.

I would love if SC was anything more than a CR nightmare battlecruiser 3000ad redux, the concept is amazing which is why it suckered in so many.
I have an Anaconda that has sat at Jameson since I bought it. Recently been working on Empire rank so wasn't sure if I would use it or a Cutter. Might just leave it parked there 'til I'm further along with engineering.

Yeah the concept along with some of the graphics are amazing - it had its hook in my mouth breifly as well until I decided to see it for what it really is. Then I was pissed at myself for dropping a couple hundred on some space ships, probably one of the dumbest things I've done.

No matter how much you people gripe and bitch, the only thing that matters is that the people who own the game enjoy it.

I enjoy it. I dont do anything in it other than haul boxes and other stuff. Its not fancy, its not special, but its enjoyable, and the game looks nice. I dont do combat, I dont bother upgrading my ships, I dont buy fancy armor, I dont mine. I fly my caterpillar from one outpost to another and sell stuff. And for me, its been worth the money.

There are hundreds of bugs, sometimes the game just doesnt work, I get pissed off, and dont play for a week. But in the end, I go back, it works sometimes, and when it does, I enjoy it.

I dont care if you think its a scam, or that Im an idiot for liking it, I just dont care. I do care that as far as Im concerned, its fun enough, and allows me to do what I want and what I expected it to let me do when I bought into it. I didnt buy for features that arent out yet, I didnt buy a ship that doesnt exist.

Maybe you should all get the stick out of your ass and accept that some people just enjoy the game for what it is, and that it isnt harming you for other people to support and enjoy it? Am I taking money from you to play it? Did CR beat your mom? Not sure where all the unbridled hate is from, especially from people who have no financial investment to be angry about. If you bought into the game in 2012, you have a right to be upset if it hasnt delivered what you expected in a timeframe they laid out (despite the fact that at no point has a release date EVER been *promised*, just theorized). If you didnt, why are you so angry over it? This really just smells of a situation of "Dont like things I dont like".

because very few, if any, present it like you.

I am glad you like it, i want to like it but my experience is written above.

Its the people that act like its somehow the second coming when its a bug ridden mess with massive development issues that get my goat. I wouldn't care at all if they where being realistic about it (like you are).

Well said man - all up until your last paragraph. I know it has its fans. And I want to be one myself but at this point, sadly, I can't be. Like Aireoth stated, most of the SC crowd are very defensive of the game - and strangely so; maybe due to the money they have sunk into a video game, I don't know. But what you said is all no nonsense and zero self delusion. And I both respect what you said and am jealous of you at the same time. If you like doing hauling missions you should also grab Elite Dangerous on the Epic Store while it's free to just see if it scratches that itch for you without all the headaches from bugs.

In the end you are going to see people be critical of games, and in this case, I've never seen any title with a bullseye on its back like this - and they put it there themselves by how they have handled its development for nearly a decade. Regarding your last paragraph what you said applies to yourself also in you complaining about complainers. Some people, like me, have money sunk into SC, others maybe not... No way to know and no reason to care - and if they didn't it doesn't make their observations irrelevant. For all you know, unless you're omnipresent, everyone here critical of the game has invested in it. Critical observations are widespread despite those that applaud Roberts' and CIG's work and there are good reasons for them. Anyone that gets annoyed seeing a game get shit that they really enjoy should steer clear of threads on said game on third party sites and stick to official forums or avoid forums entirely.

Bottom line though is that most people aren't shitting on you for liking the game when posting funny bug clips or being critical of the devs.

So someone mentioned a roadmap, has Chris Roberts released his roadmap of a roadmap of the roadmap yet? He said it was a high priority late last year and early this year.

Kind of hard to have faith in a person or studio who can't even create a demo of a roadmap for the roadmap after a year.

It will be released next month december.

Also he never said anything about redoing the roadmap last year.. He actually mentioned it a few months ago. i think around Aug/September with one of his first posts this year...

You see, this is why i dont normally reply to questions like this. Daft trolling questions that over exaggerate the facts.

Please dont entertain these trolls.

They dont understand that people love playing this game, and they seem to have a hatred towards people who enjoy this game for what it is.

Daft trolling? Can you blame the guy for asking about a roadmap that's been rescheduled dozens of times?

Roberts literally needed to develop a roadmap to the roadmap

So you're saying the roadmap is now scheduled for next month? Or is SQ42 still an entirely different roadmap?

The roadmap Is releasing next month which appears to be for both games.the SC one always had a clear roadmap.you can see what's coming out on SC PU next month too but nothing beyond that because of this New revamped roadmap that will show almost all stuff they are working on in a sprint agile way

The fan created update/roadmap image is great, I wondered why CIG didn't release something like it until someone pointed out that when you remove the delayed items, there is nothing of importance left.

I won't knock people for having fun with SC, I will knock them for not being able to step back and see how little has actually been accomplished in the last 10 years.

I read the SC reddit to try and find information on quests, locations, and actual gameplay, and month after month, its just screen shots or people talking about how they set up some kind of scenario and role played what they think gameplay will be like one day.

One thing I will massively agree on - the roadmap is nothing. It means *nothing*. I dont think Ive ever seen a release that meets half of what was supposed to appear based on the roadmap lol

I wish they would just stop projecting release dates of things and patch timeframes. That certainly adds a LOT of frustration to see something expected in 3.12... then 3.13... then 3.14.... then 4.0..... then 4.1.....
And it finally shows up in 19.7

That is one of the most frustrating things with the game. They cant meet those goals, so they need to stop setting them. I assume its an attempt to be "transparent", but when theres no accountability for not meeting the marks, it honestly means a bag of flaming shit on the porch.

Just make it simpler - "We're working on this feature, this feature, this feature. Those are the focuses". No timeframe to upset people with.

Like I said, I have no issues with people who backed it years ago based on projections, bought ships that are STILL pictures in thier inbox, and are upset. They should be. However, anyone who backs at this point in time has no way to say "I didnt know the development cycle was like this, etc etc etc". Its not a secret at this point. If you dont financially back the game, quit being angry, if you backed the game recently, quit being angry, if you backed the game in 2012, be downright incensed and threaten to burn CR's house to the ground - he deserves it. If you didnt back the game, you're welcome to say its stupid to back it and think the whole thing is a scam - but the amount of actual anger I see is ridiculous.

I also agree, as much as I love CR vision, and goals... he should never have been left to make his own way without someone there to beat him into line. He proved in the 90s that hes incapable of doing things on any form of a schedule without a slave driver whipping him. He never should have control over development. Things he forced added in that werent expected when intiially developed - like the FOIP to make your characters face copy yours. That is fucking useless. It took months of development time, and it serves NO purpose in the game at this point. Its a feature that should have been developed long after the game was feature complete. (Although I do LOVE the fact that you can use FOIP to also do head tracking without TrackIR or other devices - it works really well if you have a lit room. Its really smooth and quite neat since I dont have headtracking devices)

There have been a lot of decisions made by CR that I believe have doomed the game(s) from the start.

Ambition, scope, and "never been dones" are great and all, if you can deliver on them.

I backed the game in 2015 and knew where what I was getting into. Only upgraded my starter ship this year in patch 3.8 when I started playing this properly and saw huge upgrades in the game.

Since then I've put in thousand of hours into the game either solo or with my org friends.

The games soo good, all they could do is just add Icache to make things in game physically tracked from that empty bottle of water thrown in the ground etc

Death of spaceman, more variety in missions and you got yourself a very good starting point.

The game doesn't even need a new star system yet, just needs more gameplay and to raise the player cap significantly.

Overall its my most played game this year and me myself have already bought more ships with real money. I don't care what the trolls say and me myself don't care if tomorrow CR decides to cancel the project because I have already had soo much fun and memories playing this more then any other game.

I just want SQ42. I keep getting emails that say they are doing work on it but if I dig into the email I am not seeing anything indicating it's even anywhere near an alpha state. After 8 years. *sigh*
Yep, still waiting, and why most people backed the game originally. I still regret not getting a refund early on when you still could.

Well the problem is if they didnt set these so called goals of theirs and just said 'we're working on it' people would be bitching for more info and time frames so they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Not trying to defend them but that's a situation they managed to get themselves into.

"game"... now that's cute.

I have been hearing about this game since it was in Kickstarter but haven't payed attention to it for a while and was wondering if it is any fun to play with 1 friend. What can you do together? Is it just $45 for the base game and I don't have to pay anything more to play?

Yep, about $45 for a base ship (Aurora or Mustang) package, both are single seaters. There are tons of bugs, and amazing visuals. Missions are (someone will correct me I'm sure) mining, courier, bounty hunting, commodity trading (shipping/trade), space combat.

No further money is needed, you can team up with others to help crew larger ships and make UEC (money) to get ships in game, but if there is a wipe you loose them (not your starter).

It's also completely free to play until the 2nd of December.

Another year gone by I didnt spend any money on new ships. Still holding onto my 'I did my part and now its up to CIG to deliver' approach. Looking forward to see what they accomplish in 2021.

The other huge issue I have with the game when it comes to multi-crew and the fancier (lol fancier...) ships with multiple turrets and guns is....

A server has 50 people on it at this point. Thats terrible, and so low. I have heard them say itll be increased Soon* for several years. Until it is, theres really no point to doing multi-crew and multi-ship operations. Three proper multi crew fighting ships working together will easily be 1/4 of the people on a server at this point. Thats terrible. (And Im not even referring to the real warships in the game, but the starter class ones. Even a fully crewed Cutlass Black has 3 people, and its just a glorified single seat fighter with a turret)
Hell, my Cat can have 2 gunners, 2 tractor beam operators (dont work yet*), an engineer (Doesnt work yet*), pilot, copilot, and two other seats that have displays but I dont know what they do (Because they dont do anything). Thats one ship, and its a *cargo* ship. I can have 1/5 of a servers pop in my ship to be fully crewed - and its just a giant space tractor trailer.

If I pull all three of my ships, I can have 14 people fighting for me if they are all fully crewed.

To have a chance of having properly scaled awesome fights, the servers need to be at minimum 250 people IMO, and with the stability issues as is, I honestly dont know when to expect that. I think the day will come that it happens, but when is a question far beyond my pay grade lol

This is probably the most damning criticism I have come across for us outsiders looking in on what is possible.
It needs to be hugely scalable yet is not capable of the most basic level of connections.
There are a ton of criticisms to make but this I think seals it.
It will never have the scope to succeed when they cant give even basic function.

Multi crew is another one of the ideas where it sounds great at first, then you ask yourself "how fun will it be to sit inside someone else's ship and basically have nothing to do unless a battle happens." Now try to find 3, 5, 10, etc... people who think that is fun.

Honestly its something that wont appeal to everyone, I think of it much like the game Wolfpack. How fun is it to sit in a submarine for 5 hours, staring at a TDC? Or sit at the diving planes, turning wheels to control depth? It doesnt appeal to everyone, but the people it DOES appeal to are willing to support it to the death.

I wouldnt mind being an engineer on a ship in SC or a radar operator or something. Not all the time, but every now and then, setting a day aside to work as part of a crew? Sure.
The big thing I like about SC is even though ships may say they required 3 people to operate - they dont. You can fly every single ship solo, even the largest out right now. As long as they keep the ability to solo (with clearly reduced effectiveness as you dont have turrets manned and fine control over stuff the engineering station can do, etc), its good.

Honestly guys, those of us who have backed the game DO see the massive issues and problems, and most of us have doubts and fears about the future. But it doesnt stop some of us from enjoying what we have access to, and deciding whether its worth the investment, or more investement, or less. I personally have got ~450 in the game, and have no intention to spend more. But Im comfortable with what I spent and what I have, what I can do. Anything else from here is gravy. The ENTIRE reason I wanted to be in this game was to walk around pretty stations, and fly a cargo ship to deliver stuff around. And thats what I got, and accomplished. And its gotten better, for what I want, since I first invested in the $35 package several years ago just to get into the game, this I invested a little more as time went on to be where I am now, where I feel comfortable and have no further desire. I can move a ton of stuff, have friends fly with me, and generally enjoy space trucking.

This is the best looking and most enjoyable game of its type IMO. I own Elite Dangerous, and while I like the massive galaxy and generally enjoy the game, I dont get the same sense of accomplishment doing things in it as I do in just carrying cargo around the verse in SC.

I think this thread should be two threads. One would be "crap on SC", the other would be "I enjoy/look forward to SC".

I think this thread should be two threads. One would be "crap on SC", the other would be "I enjoy/look forward to SC".
I think the thread can serve both purposes. And I think there are even people who both enjoy SC and are frustrated with its progress. I mean, there's an example of that in the post directly above your own!

There was another thread a few years ago specifically for voicing and discussing the issues and problems with the project. Saw a good bit of initial use but some people wanted to just argue with those who enjoy the game at times or consistently vs act civilly towards each other so it was shut down. This one has been close a few times so while it has deviated from its original purpose if people stay constructive and such it can serve both purposes.

Why, is it not valid to discuss the many lies and scummy behavior of CR and CIG as it relates to SC?

Edit: People wouldn't shit on CR, CIG, or SC if there wasn't a constant stream to do so, year after year.
I mean, yes, but also there is really not any new information other than "game still isn't even in beta yet". Any time there is an update to the thread about content, you get 5 other people coming in again to shit on it because it's still not done. It's not particularly necessary or relevant to keep saying the same thing over and over.

Until they release it. It is relevant to shit on it as much as possible.

Who are you guys trying to convince here? Everyone knows the state of the game, including people who bought into it. Some people are clearly having fun with the alpha PTU stuff, despite the unfinished state.

I feel like people are trying to white-knight against Chris Roberts, but...to who? We all know what he's about.
