NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Finally I got the EVGA RTX3090 and it fits very good in the ncase.
I just wanted to make sure I have thre right fan setup.
Currently: 2 Fans underneath the Card, one Side intake and 90mm out in the back.

CPU is 3700x. Temps are at the moment 75°C for CPU and 80°C for the RTX.

Good to see that the card fits just fine. Did you have to do any special or in a certain order to get the card in there?
What version of the ncase do you have?

This looks to be the same fan setup that I use (albeit with a 2070 rather than a 3090, and a different CPU).

Do you have the fans underneath the card as intakes or exhausts?

Nothing special. I had to remove the x570 fan from the GB X570 I Board to have a little more room to put it in the PCIe Slot. The backplate seems to be a little bit higher than my GTX 980 backplate.. After that I screwed it in again.No problems. I also orderd the Removable Front I/O kit but i didn't need it. Its v3.0.
I'm using a SF600 at no problems at all.

Sadly, as much as I loved using this case, I had to rebuild my machine when Nvidia RMA'd my GPU with a graphics card which no longer fit into the Ncase M1. Sucked, I loved this case and didn't want to rebuild. Alas, now I have already rebuilt my machine and I need to sell the Ncase M1. Any word on which of the various 3080 card/waterblock combinations will fit an M1?

I'm trying to limit myself to FE or Asus TUF Gaming. It looks like EKWB's block for the Asus would fit the m1, but I haven't seen it yet.

Max width for GPUs is 140mm at it widest point, the EK block for the TUF is 148mm. You would probably do better with the FE.

Guys can I get some advice on air cooling the M1. I am likely going with an AMD 5900x or 5950x and a 3080 or 6800xt.

I did some research and the Noctua NH-U9S with a second fan seems good for the cooler. Anything better?

Any advice on other fans and the best orientation?

I was thinking cpu fans as exhaust and bottom as intake with Noctua NF-F12 PWM

Lastly what is the best amd motherboard for this case please?

I have an old case Ncase m1 v5.0 with graphic evga 1080ti sc included...
i have planed to take evga 3080 xc3 but i can't find it, and only choice i have MSI 3080 Ventus but it worries me length of the card and my old version of case.... can you guys give me advice :)

Now this GPU has all three fans in exhaust.

Can someone please advise:

I would love to go for a deshroud unless I am better off just adding exhaust fans in the bottom of the case? I think deshroud would be ideal to create a silent beast.

Looks like a deshroud will be difficult without a dremel. Any ideas?


What would be the best fans and fan orientations given this gpu for the full build if I do deshroud?

I like Noctua so I am thinking:
2 x NF-A12x25 for the deshroid gpu (intake?)
NH-U95 with an extra fan (intake)
Any other fans needed if there are mesh sides?

I may have an opportunity to buy an EVGA 3080. I'm just not sure what model it is yet.

Anyone know which EVGA RTX 3080 models will fit a v4 NCASE?
 
Lucky me, a coworker snagged an EVGA 3080 XC Ultra he's letting me have at cost. Looks like I'll need to swap out my 25mm bottom fans for 15mm ones, but it should fit. If I had my druthers I'd have got the FE, but one perk of the EVGA is better waterblock options.
 
I broke down and ordered a v6.1. I've had two great builds in my v4 but I think some of the revisions, especially the bottom panel, will be helpful for my upcoming build. Now to decide if I should hold onto my v4 🤔
 
Is there an STL of any of the NCase M1 parts? I need a modified IO shield and power button to go along with the 3090 FE I put in it.
 
My AIO is dying cooling my 9900k in my Ncase m1

Any suggestions on replacement? I've heard Air Cooling won't be enough for my 9900k in the Ncase M1...

It was 60+C in bios (default settings) and curerntly on boot up this is what it got to...

Kraken X52, X53, Cooler Master MasterLiquid LC240, Corsair H100i, etc?

What specific cooler are you using. That seems way off normal. Are you sure its mounted correct?

I had a Corsair H100i RGB Platinum (with 3x Noctua A12X25 PWM - 2 on the outside and 1 inside facing the pump) cooling my 9900K OCed to... was it 4.7 or 4.8. I dont remember. It would draw about 170-180W (HWinfo) with max load in Prime95 (small FFT I think). It would run pretty hot but it is a synthetic bench so not really usable for practical knowhow. I think about 75-80c with 100% RPM. It could draw up to 250W with Prime95 AVX512 and maxing out the H100i Platinum where the CPU would reach 95-105c. Again its a synthetic benchmark and as such I was satifsfied with the result.

With my Notcua C14 (not S) it would hit about 85-90c depending on fan speed. I spoke with Nanook who also had a 9900K (dont know if he still has) and he meant that there was potential for better temps. But it will also vary from chip to chip.

Air cooling is defintely enough. It depends on what OC and what workload you expect. All my results are synthetic. In gaming I sit around 60 and rarely go over 70.

current cooling setup is a Dark Rock TF CPU cooler and two noiseblocker fans as intake in the bottom of the case. It’s not enough And the FE is hitting 81c in Timespy with the side off. So I need to completely rethink the cooling and prepared to swap it all out for something else.

I prefer not to use water, even AIO, because there’s just more to go wrong and a custom loop is beyond my ability.

I’m already using the shorter cable set for the SF600 which helps reduce the amount of stuff in the case and have ordered the custom Corsair 12-pin cable so I don’t have to use the adapter which came with the FE - that will also help with clutter. I have a Corsair SF750 on order but in the meantime it’s sort of working with the old SF600 so I may see how that goes with bit of undervolting and perhaps send it back. I expect that the 750 with all that headroom will be generally quieter though and I can repurpose the 600.

so where should I go? A Noctua NH U9S will allow me to put a 120x25mm fan next to it on the bracket to improve airflow. Do I keep the bottom 120x25mm fans or replace them With something else?

if AIO is the way to go, which one? And again do I stick with the bottom fans as they are?

Grateful for any thoughts or suggestions please.

The best setup I have seen so far is rear fan as intake, NH-U9S blowing toward front of case, 2 bottom intake fans and a 120mm fan on the bracket as exhaust. This way both the CPU and GPU exhaust go out the side and the CPU isn't recycling the hot air from the GPU. I'm running a delidded 8700k in my Ghost with a NH-L12 Ghost Edition and cooling is really good, the U9S should be even better.

I agree, I am not a fan of exhaust out the side but with the peculiar exhaust of the FE it seems to work best. Yes just a 92x25 which you can also get in Chromax, I have one on my NH-L12 GE.
 
In terms of the fan spec I’m quite confused about what is needed. There’s lots of options. I assume 4 pin & 12v for the Motherboard connector and variable control I think but I suspect I don’t want ultra low noise as much as efficiency. So assume a 92x25 (not 14) for the back and an A or S class 120x25 for the side bracket and I’m golden. Or more likely beige ;)
 
Fun fact - the Airflow from the card now impacts my M2 SSD which means it flies way over its limits and causes the system overheat. I have an M2 slot on the back of the motherboard which I can use instead but that was an unexpected development and direct result of the airflow from these beastly cards.
 
I Have a V5 case and due to circumstances outside my control have to replace the motherboard with something more modern. I would therefore like to get the new front plate which is currently out of stock on the Ncase site. Are there other sources for this part?
 
Hi my pc is already running in open build. Ncase is only on the way to me. Unfortunately, the first of the three fans has a bearing damage with me :( I hope the exchange that I get a 2 te and then send the old back ( caseking )

a few questions would have arisen with me now.

1.) Fan damage with the first fan... is that automatically a replacement or can you possibly replace the fan itself ? For 960 euros the grinding annoys me tremendously. Is not a coil whine.

2.) I can not mount my 2nd fan on the NH-U9s there where the connectors are ( IO Shield ) is a massive protection / heat sink in the way. But according to the pictures I can mount it at the rear fan ( ) so I don't need to worry when the case is there ? In order to fit the second NF-A9 to the back of the case, I needed to remove two of the anti-vibration pads from the fan. This way it fits snuggly between the back-left corner of the case (when looking at the case front-on) and the rear IO panel/box of the motherboard. This seems to work well - there's no vibration - however I'm unsure if this is safe long term due to how snug the fit is. ". Maybe you bought the wrong motherboard for the case ? The C14s would not improve the problem either or ?

Have you ever taken a PSU apart? If it were mine and you were damned sure it's not coil whine I'd take the PSU apart far enough to replace the fan with a same size Noctua fan.
 
Anyone have recommedations for rubber pads on these square 3D printed feet replacements?

Pretty much everything I can find on eBay and Amazon (UK) seems to be the same foam pads by differerent sellers so would be good to have some other options.
 
However, I amend my previous statement. Those ASRock H410 boards would significantly throttle a 10700. ASRock imposes a 135W long-duration power limit on it's H410 boards, so a 10700 would only boost to about 3.9GHz all-core. With certain MSI H410 and B460 boards, you would get a 255W long-duration limit, so you'd get the full 4.6GHz all-core out of the 10700. ASUS has a 210W limit on one B460 board, the rest are limited to 125W. It gets confusing, it's all detailed in this article:

Basically, if you're gonna go for a non-Z490 and non-K SKU, make sure your board supports a generous power limit, otherwise you won't get the advertised boost speeds. So those H410 boards would only be good up to about a 10400 or so. Still nice to have budget options.
Regarding the power limit mentioned in the last paragraph, would this also apply K SKU (10700K or 10850K) if using one of these Asrock H410M motherboards?
Or do you reckon that would work fine at stock speed and turbo boost?

Sorry quoting so far back, its just that I stumbled on these H410M-HDV and H410-HDV/M.2 and realized it might be nice upgrade from my H81 Mini-DTX motherboard in my Ncase v1.

I did that. Turns out it was coil whine 😄

Learn from me. Make extra sure it's not coil whine.
 
damn you guys are incredible fitting current gen cards in a M1. I could barely work in my 1070 and an AIO. I need to study these pics for inspiration

I would like to use something similar so that I still got access to a 1x16 and 1x1 Pci-E Slot.
It seems impossible to find such a size in a modern motherboard, anyone in here been able find one or even use one?

Ive found some Asrock B460M that is right at the height limit of 22.6cm but its probably way too wide with 18.8cm.

Is a current version of the M1 in any way wider inside, perhaps due to some rework?

ncase says mini-dtx is supported in the current revision. It does limit options for bottom fans, probably to the point of not supporting them depending on what you do with the slot. It won't support matx, which the B460M is.

I don't believe the changes made to the most recent revisions of the M1 allow a wider motherboard than earlier revisions. Improvements have been made in other areas, including graphics card size, but not motherboard width.
