SENTRY 2.0: Evolution of console-sized gaming PC case

Absolutely nuts. Really amazing how much hardware you can pack into such small systems. Actually surprised this particular configuration didn't come from the likes of the Optimum Tech YouTube channel. Now let's see what AMD brings to the table with new Cpu's and Gpu's soon 👍

I'm speculating new Ryzen cpu's will be pushing the limits of the 7nm process and we'll see power and thermals rise to squeeze every last drop of performance from it.

RDNA2 is a total wildcard. Here's hoping for better perf/watt than Ampere. Ampere has crazy performance but requires a lot of power. Though it appears to be mostly manageable 🤷‍♂️

So i was lucky enough to own a Sentry 1.0 but now, need another one. Is it too late to get a 2.0?

Hate to break it to you, but you miss the boat on a very limited second batch back in July 2020. Right now, SaberPL is focusing on making a revision to 2.0. There is no ETA when 2.1 will be release.

Ah ok thanks. Dammit. Ebay seems to have some, but boy are they going at a premium price!

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried the J-Hacks m2426 in a Sentry case? If so I would love your feedback on how it worked in the Sentry case.

I'm finally swapping out the power supply in my Sentry 1.0 and was thinking about custom cables when I came across the J-Hacks in another forum.

Oh wow cool. I didn't know such a thing existed. I've ordered other products from J-hack with success so I can at least say in my experience they're reliable as a seller.

I wonder if RTX 3080 FE would work fine in Sentry? One fan would be blocked...

I'm trying to catch 3070 FE for my Sentry, but was wondering if 2-slot 3080 would be OK, that 300W is a bit too much for Sentry.

In my experience with Sentry over the years I would say ~200w is the sweet spot. 250w at most. My GTX 1080 performed perfectly in Sentry at 180W. My 1080ti at 250W was noticeably tougher to keep cool. Not impossible. But if you want to just put a slim system together and enjoy it without constant tweaking and monitoring temps, aim for 200W. Unless you enjoy the tweaking, in which case, good luck 😎👍 I have no experience with rtx 3000 series or amd 6000 series so perhaps my experience is out of date but watts is watts so 🤷‍♂️

I had 1080Ti n Sentry and it was fine. Then had 2070S.
Just got RTX3070 FE and it same as 1080Ti and 2070S.
I guess having crippled cooling with one fan not going to do anything wouldn't be good.

Guess I should have looked at your signature haha, glad the 3070 is working well for you. I'm long overdue for an upgrade 😑

I hope Dr Zaber will keep in mind designing 2.1 to have some mesh on other side for cards like 3080.

Not really. We tried doing so with various approaches and in every possible scenario the end results have aesthetic that you don't really want to look at.
Also lets see if the design gets to stay for more than one generation, especially the one that had such issues with availability.

It does feel like a free performance boost, but at the same time we don't want to deface the good looking product for a one generation of cards if we are not really sure it'll stay.
Also frills like the custom plug make it so the founders edition card is a mess for case like Sentry.

Triple fan cards are still there and we'll have to see which design will survive.

OK, no worries, just a thought (dzieki za super szybkie opdisanie:))

I know that Candians threw 3090 in it, but majority will think that it was pretty insane.
But what do you think about having 3080 in it? 320W card? Like that EVGA CX3 with those fans on one side, cooling and power wise - is it "VERY too much", or just a bit too much?:)
I know its hard to say now, when not many peeps was able to grab those new cards, but I can't find more examples of more powerful cards in Sentry, than cards I personally had, like 1080Ti, or my new one, 3070FE

We have no idea so far as this depends on how much of the heat is in one place. We were ready to get the XC3 card from EVGA and waiting for notification about new stock, but it never came.
And that was until there were some news about new cards coming which means either significantly better 3080TI or cheaper 3080 for testing.

Not much we can do about it for now. Both cards and new Ryzen 5000 CPUs are hard to get right now.
We are not really sure if this is even worth testing as those parts are really out of reach and we might see new product lines around the end of Q1 2021 just to have it fresh and because intel might be catching up with something

Is there a temperature difference when using the case in horizontal position?
Any disadvantages, cons using it flat?

Temperatures tend to be a little lower when used in the vertical orientation. It tends to only be a couple degrees of a difference though if I remember correctly.

I have Sentry 1.0, and run it horizontal with a 1070 blower. With custom fan curve, 1070 fan does get a little loud under heavy gaming once temps go above 50c. Other than that, no issues.

I have a 2.0 and a 4070 FE. I would like drill vent holes for the GPU on the side that doesn't have any since the FE is a flow through card.

Is there a template I could use to print out a template for the holes, I would either keep it a square just got the the fan on that side or replicate the opposite side vent.

Is there any downside. I'll probably use a drill press to get more consistent holes
