I would have expected these to come out soonish but can't find info
Not much if anything. Might remove that jet engine of a chipset fan that runs 100% of the time. What can we expect the X670 chipsets to offer that the X570 chipsets don't already?

Mine never runs other than briefly at boot-up. Not once in the 5 months I've had the motherboard under various types of system loads. Stays around 50*C at all times. Not much if anything. Might remove that jet engine of a chipset fan that runs 100% of the time.

If the X670 offers actual features that the X570 doesn't then I'd be more inclined to upgrade. But I just don't see what it would be able to offer.
Yes mine runs around 52c and the fan never spins. It annoyed me when my gigabyte master x570 decided to switch to the back up bios which was outdated and didn't even have a option to change the fan speed. It would run 100% til I changed the bios.I test a lot of X570 boards. Basically, the chipsets always sit between 50c and 60c. The fans typically either don't spin or spin at a low enough RPM range to be drowned out by the CPU or system fans.

There were rumors of an x670 with chipset not made by AMD (made by asmedia who makes the b550 parts). Nothing has been confirmed I don't think, just some speculation and unconfirmed leaks as far as I remember. Is there going to definitely be X670 MBs released as the B550s only just came out recently. I thought I read on another forum that they won't be releasing X670 MBs this time around due to their not being many features they can add, plus, the next CPU release likely to need a new socket AM5. Is it confirmed that there will be X670 MBs?

Yeah, but rumors also have it not coming out this year... so really not to much benefit for those upgrading soon. Seems like if it does come out, it's going to be well after the launch and part way into next year. At that point, people might as well wait on DDR5 instead of buying a dead end platform with minimal difference between it and what's available. Again, it's all still in the rumor/speculation stages... considering AMD will announce on the 8th zen3 and we haven't heard anything about x670, leads me to believe there just isn't much information about x670 and it'll either be a late release or they decided to scrap it. Annoying because that means there will be no motherboards that support zen3 without a bios update (except maybe a handful in the channels that AIB's have updated, but not real stock or any easy way to tell which you'll end up with). Makes no difference to me personally as I can update my bios, but still it's nice to release a new MB with day 1 support at launch so people wanting to switch over don't have to jump through hoops. That's basically it. I can almost guarantee that X670 won't be made by AMD. It's very likely to be an ASMedia part. The good news about that is it will likely use a lot less power and won't require active cooling. If I had to guess, I'd say it will consume 7w to 8w unlike the 15w of X570.

That was my point, it's almost pointless, besides giving a new platform for some AIB's to sell a few more boards before moving onto a new platform. I would *guess* they intended to have it ready for this release but possibly ran into some issues and now it's going to be late. A lot of R&D dumped into it, so it'd be silly to scrap it, might as well release it even if it's late and try to recoup some $$. I really don't know, but i've seen at least 2 independent rumors (aka, they weren't quoting/parroting the other like you see a lot) of either really late this year or next year, but both suggested it would not be ready for launch or even in the same month. Please take with a grain of salt obviously, because.. rumors are just that. AMD has been suspiciously quiet lately, so maybe they are just doing a bang up job hiding it, but seeing some zen3 leaks and rdna2 leaks recently, but ZERO x670 leaks... kinda points to it not being as close to release.what would be the point in AMD releasing it months after the Zen 3 launch?...X670 doesn't really make sense as is but waiting a few months makes even less sense with AM4 coming up...my guess is that if there's no X670 at launch then we won't be seeing it until AM4
A520 is just the A320 replacement which is a stripped down B550 chipset.Apparently there is a new chipset A520. I'm guessing there will be a new X6xx MB? All I'm hoping is an ITX board with no fan and more USB C headers or ports. 10GBe ports is probably too much to ask for.
There will be a x670 at launch, even if it is a rebrand of the x570. No way amd will pass up the opportunity to launch a cpu without and mb. That would be bad business on their part.
I just hope they aren’t over priced like most of the x570 mbs. I also don’t want to pay a lot for a mb that I know will be eol as soon as it is released. Nextgen will be ddr5, so it’s going to be a one and done mb.
I think if you were worried about that have the X570 board you want picked out from where you want to buy it from and when the announcement comes if there isnt a new chipset buy the x570 board if there is its up to you if the new one is worth it. Thats sort of my plan, if no new chipset comes out I am picking up the Asus ROG Strix X570-I.I am wondering if I should just buy an X570 board now ahead of Ryzen 5000...so far leaked performance looks to be on par or better than the 10900K for the higher-end parts. Then I wonder about availability at launch...

I planned out my Zen 3 build 2 months ago and have been slowly ordering parts...I bought the mobo in mid-August when it finally showed up in stock...the good thing about Zen 3 only releasing in October is that it allowed me to be patient with my parts purchase and not impulse buy anything...the only AMD motherboard I was interested in purchasing- MSI X570 Tomahawk- was never in stock so I waited because I knew I would be able to nab one before October
Is the price the big draw for that one? I've been liking the Asus offerings but I guess the Tomahawk is closer to $200.
Here's a 4 for 1.

it would be bad business for the board partners, for AMD it would be good business because they wouldn't have to pay asmedia and they could continue to sell their x570 chipset.

not really. Z370 rebrand z390. It happens all the time. People will spend money just to have the newer thing when it is essentially the same thing.
Hope you can flash the bios without a CPU - unless you picked up a Zen 2 CPU too.
Depends on the board; I haven't looked up the Tomahawk, some do (even turned off), some don't. AMD will sometimes send you a CPU, or you may have to buy/sell an older one.I didn't think about that...there's no way of flashing the BIOS with the new CPU installed?
I know you can do it with Asus boards: https://rog.asus.com/technology/rog-motherboard-innovations/usb-bios-flashback/
I need to look up the instructions for the MSI Tomahawk...I've never flashed the BIOS without a CPU installed...any potential issues or problems doing it this way?

It depends. More expensive motherboards like the ASUS Crosshair VIII Formula, Extreme or MSI's MEG X570 GODLIKE can be flashed without a CPU installed. These motherboards have a specialized ASIC that allows for this. However, motherboards in the sub-$300 range rarely if ever offer this feature. Thus, they require an older CPU to be installed to flash the BIOS before installing a newer and currently unsupported CPU.
