New NZXT H1 SFF chassis

Wendell made some very solid points. However it always seems to me that some of the expectations put on these small enclosures are simply not achievable.

There is zero exhaust, all units (CPU, GPU, & PSU) are on intake, this is a pure positive pressure chassis...

Which might also be part of the decision to go with the tempered glass; only one way for the air to exhaust, out the back...?

The caveat to all this is the price—NZXT is asking $349.99 for the H1, which is available in black and white color options. It's expensive compared to other SFF cases, 4 the inclusion of a 650W PSU and 140mm CPU AIO cooler add a fair bit of value.

NZXT is also offering the H1 as an option for its prebuilt BLD PCs. Pricing for an H1 model starts at $1,999 and comes with a Core i9-9900K processor, Asus ROG Strix Z390-I motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3200 RAM, GeForce RTX 2070 Super graphics card, and 1TB Intel 660p SSD.

if you do the math its ~$150 for just the case. thats not that bad and $350 including the psu and aio seems ok to me.

The Seasonic Focus SFG SFX-L 650W Gold PSU (which is the PSU included, just re-labeled for NZXT) runs about 120 bucks, add a 10 buck surcharge for the custom-length pre-routed cables? A comparable 140mm AIO runs about 80 bucks. There is also the specific length, pre-formed PCIe riser cable, that could be anywhere from 20 to 50 bucks.

So I would put the chassis itself around 80 to 100 bucks?

In my opinion, an excellent value. I plan to buy one to sit on until AMD gives us Zen 3 CPUs & AM5 motherboards!

(...although I really hope we can get Zen 3 CPUs on AM4 mobos, so I have an upgrade path for my Crosshair VIII Impact, maybe Zen 4 brings the AM5 socket...)

I'll bite at $300. Assuming the reviews demonstrate it to be a solid performer in terms of thermals.

Based on this picture I assume it is exactly that.

I like it. While the price break down does seem to work out. I'm also cheap and would like to pay $300. Maybe the price will budge.

I haven't seen many pics of it sitting on its side. It can do that can't it?

It has a $350 msrp, so I'm hoping once it hits retail we'll see a $20-30 discount.

Yeah, I am in no position to buy currently anyways, so maybe in a year or so it drops to $299. I really like how it comes ready to go, I have been wanting to go SFF, but would still need case, cooler, psu. So this really covers all bases.

It could, if you find a way to keep the side panel off the desk (for airflow), both sides are intake, the rear is exhaust; I guess you could just lay it on the TG front panel...?

But seeing as the whole idea of a tower chassis is to reduce desktop footprint...

Lay it on the TG, that would be lame. I guess I am thinking of the shoebox style cases (Ghost, etc.). I do like the small footprint, but it seems like allowing it to sit either way would have been at the top of the list.

This thing looks right up my alley. I want to do a Ryzen 3800x build in it. Any recommendations on the motherboard? The X570 chipset ITX mobo selection looks pretty small to begin with.

You have three choices for an AM4 ITX mobo; Asus, ASRock, & Gigabyte. None of those have an internal USB Type-C header. I am personally hoping that we will get B550 ITX mobos sometime soon, I would think manufacturers would be including USB Type-C internal headers as standard at this point?

I like the design of the case because it reminds me of the new Xbox coming up and I find the simple designs attractive but with that price, I don't see it happening mainly because I wish they would have sold the case bear without the power supply and cooling system

When is this shipping to retail? I can't find anywhere to buy it. Maybe Corona is slowing shipments? Though I also want to wait until they update it with the PCI-E 4.0 riser cable.

not yet and why? gpus arent really needing 4.0 yet or are you going to mount a nvme in it?

TG seems pretty pointless but I can understand it is maintaining the NZXT looks and the case really need top fan for exhaust like the Corsair One. Other than that, I am excited that NZXT is making SFF ish cases easier for folks that my feel intimidated with SFF cases.

Because I'm lazy and I don't want to replace the cable later when I need a 4.0 riser. Also I heard some 4.0 mobos have a hard time negotiating down to 3.0 with a 3.0 riser cable, and don't have an option to force to 3.0.

So what was the point of the media blitz if I still can't buy one? They are letting the hype die down.

sorry to necro, but if you have the H1 and havent gone through the recall process, I would definitely think about doing that - or replacing the PCI-E riser.

has to be a prob in the riser production.
Here's the follow up from the first fire video, definitely a design fault from NZXT. They violated so many basic PCB design rules it's ridiculous, and as far as I can tell, every one of these riser PCBs will likely short out if the screw is removed/reinstalled a couple times. The plastic bolt "fix" is a joke, and the only real fix is to redesign the PCB to keep the 12V plane much further away from the screw holes, and to plate the holes and ground them, like pretty much every single PCB ever made.

NZXT CEO Johnny Hou has posted a statement on his company’s website regarding an ongoing safety issue with the H1 case, which features a PCIe Gen3 riser cable that can potentially short and create a fire due to its proximity to case screw mounts.

We will be removing the H1 from the NZXT Store and NZXT BLD. We’re going to send out redesigned PCIe Gen3 Riser Assemblies for current H1s and we’re going to help with installation for those who need it.

Seriously NZXT? Not being mindful of location and vulnerability of power planes? Even I know to watch out for that and my PCB designing skills are pretty rudimentary o_O

kinda feel like I dodged a bullet... back in the autumn a friend asked me to design her a custom PC and I'd spec'd an H1 for the case. Friend flaked before parts were aquired and now I'm kind of glad, wouldn't have wanted to supply her with fire-hazard-level defective kit  TBH if she comes thru with the job this year I'm still inclined to go with an H1 because it's just too good, but only if this defect is well and truly fixed by then.
