Google Pixel 3

Pixel 3a with 4gb is reasonable for it's price.
Pixel 3 as a flagship with 4gb ram is pathetic.

I hope Google learns their lesson considering no one bought the pixel 3.
I did.
Tbh, I haven't had any issues ram-wise

Maybe they're finally learning. Furthermore, I like they finally brought the Pixel 3 and 3a series to T-mobile (and other, non Verizon carriers). I always found it insane that Google did not, totally independent of carriers, run a "Pixel Forever" program similar to the "iPhone / Galaxy" forever programs, especially if they want to start charging Apple-like flagship prices for a "luxury" product. I begrudgingly give Apple credit for the fact their iPhone Forever program is the reason that so many Apple users can get a new, top of the line phone every single time and it is - if you look at the price/value and don't mind the monthly payment - a decent value. Instead of paying $1200 up front for an iPhone XS maxed out its essentially 24 interest-free payments, PLUS you get included AppleCare. After 6 (or some some people 12) payments have been made you can just trade the thing up to the newest and greatest and start over. If you're going to be essentially leasing $1000 phones as all these companies seem to want to do (by their lack of long term update support etc) , then the least they can do is make it easy and a reasonable value to do so. Google Store's financing basically only does part of this meaning that you always need to pay off the FULL value, which as far as I am concerned is a no-go - if I wanted to do that I'd just wait and do it myself, sell the phone etc. At least working with T-Mobile (and Sprint etc.) means that there's a way to get a reasonable upgrade and installment payment plan for the Pixel now, rather than a partnership with Verizon Wireless - THE most proprietary, locked down carrier we have.

That said, I hope this means that Google will start releasing the next Pixels LATER and truly make them high end. The Oct/Nov launch means they are using a nearly year-old chipset/hardware, while decisions like to make an expensive flagship with a middle of the road amount of RAM is not acceptable. Google Pixel should be leading the charge with the newest and best for Android, ideally the most open as well, too! I'd rather see them release a new Pixel in Feb/March and be one of the first devices with a new chipset for instance rather than be a year behind so to speak. I've also been disappointed by the increasingly proprietary "pixel experience" drifting from AOSP Android and would like to see it brought back to the Nexus style days.

In any event though, the 3A lineup is a nice addition I have to say, for a middle of the road device. Lets just hope their next flagship truly deserves it. Now to see how the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G (or whatever it will be called) stacks up in a week or two..

With most people putting their phone in a case, it feels like this wouldn't be much of a step down. Storage space (I use 128GB) is the only red flag for me personally.

My dad's still on a Galaxy S5, and REALLY needs an upgrade. The 3a will definitely be my recommendation based on the price and plastic casing.

I take it back. Just sent him the Best Buy deal on the 3a ($400+ $100gc).

Nope.

Yesterday he bought a NEW iPhone 8 for $500.

I feel ancient, I still have a Nexus 6 from the stone age. Never felt a reason to upgrade. It does all I need a phone to do and battery life is outstanding.

The Google Pixel 3a is here...and it looks really good!

The regular 3a starts at $399 and the 3a XL starts at $479. Same camera as the regular Pixel 3 with a Snapdragon 670 and 4GB of RAM. The screens are still 18/18.5:9 OLED but 1080p, and the battery sizes are also very nice! Body is made of plastic instead of glass which has its own pros and cons.

Good plastic
Bigger battery
Same rear camera
Headphone jack
Mid-range SoC performant for normal phone use
Fast charging...

I don't see any downsides for someone that just want a phone that works?

Totally agree. For the price you can't complain, but some people will never be happy lol

Really though, just because every new phone has to outdue the competitor do we really need 6-8gb of ram in a phone? Besides the specs looking nice.

I have been away from google for a while now. But the 3a has me intrigued. Kind of been wanting to go back to android.

If I didn't need the additional capacity, I'd consider selling my Pixel 2 and getting one. My phone only leaves its case for a few seconds per year, so the back could be made of wood for all I care.
Right now Android is running absolutely fantastic on Pixel devices, so it's a good device to pitch to iPhone owners. Very clean, streamlined, and things just work...without any bloatware or heavy configuration work, too. Certainly far less clumsy than a Samsung.
Hopefully they'll keep this "a" device line around and offer additional capacity next year.

I have been considering a phone for my wife for mothers day, but all the larger phones are quite expensive. The Pixel 3a XL at best buy might be a good fit for the price at Best Buy.

I think anything over $200 is crazy for any phone, I also think anyone that pays full retail is a sucker. My girlfriend got her Pixel 3 for $285 with the google fi promotion and trade in. I was able to find a $20 promo code for Google Fi so she didn't even have to pay for the first month of service.

I'll look at the 3a when I can get one for $200.

I have 2 gripes with the 3a. One has nothing to do with the phone itself.

1. Lack of any water resistance. Not a deal breaker, but I'm clumsy and have previously dropped a phone in a toilet before (long gone now :p), so whilst I own it's my fault, water resistance is nice!
2. The price in Australia. 399 US sounds great, I expected a 550-600 AUD price. Nope, 649 and 799 for 3a and 3a xl respectively. I'd really like to see it sub 600, but hopefully sales will fix this! I think around 500-550 in AUD would make this phone a steal. If my Pixel 2 dies on me, it's likely this will be my next phone as I've never bought outright 'flapship' before my pixel 2, and really don't wish to spend that much on a phone again..

Prolly a good phone, but big bezels which makes the phone kinda outdated.

Waiting for my roommate to send me his Google Fi referral, going to pick this up and return my new Moto G7 since my provider currently only supports GSA networks for the device... leaving me in a complete dead zone at work. Unacceptable.

count me in for the 2020 refresh of this unit. I really want to see how the 3700mha battery sips battery with the 1080p OLED screen and 670SD chipset.

The best buy deal looks pretty good for the Google Pixel 3a XL unlocked. Activated with sprint for $379 plus a $100 gift card. It looks like if it is a new activation with a ported in number it is $30 a month unlimited.

They are both overpriced. The midrange market has a ton of competition. The main complaint about the pixel line this last round was price.

Looks like they didn’t learn much this time either.

There is a lot of competition in the mid-range but the Pixel 3a has the upper hand in two important ways: 3 years of guaranteed updates which are also available the earliest of all Android phones, and a camera that puts all mid-range phones in the dirt by comparison.

I'm also very interested to see battery life with a 1080p OLED, SD 670, and 3000/3700 mAh batteries - could be one of the best in the segment as well.

The camera benefit cannot be understated. The pixel camera is simply the best out there. And several reviews have shown that the CPu in the 3a, while slower lo load apps, doesn't show significant in-app performance issues.

Worth swapping out my GF's Pixel 2 for the 3a?

Probably not, but If you don't care about capacity over 64GB or waterproofing it has smaller bezels and a larger battery. More of a horizontal move, but it has some advantages.

Hmm, I dont know if I should bother to get one. I have an old iPhone SE that I saved for when I travel to sketchy places, I can trade that in and get the Pixel 3a for $150. Its tempting just to have a decent android backup phone. But the waterproofing bothers me. I havent been up to date with android phones, is there anything else around this price thats worth it?

All I know is that I'm glad I didn't wait on the 3a announcement. Picked up a Pixel 3 128GB for ~$480 (including tax) during the Google Fi birthday sales event couple of weeks ago, although admittedly my first received unit was defective and I had to send it back. Google was quick to get me a brand new one and so far so good.

Despite being a customer who was screwed over by Nexus 6P defects, I'm giving Google one more chance. If this Pixel 3 unit goes defective just outside the warranty, I swear I'm done with Google made phones. Still love me some Android though.

That's a pretty damn good deal. If I had a phone that was more than 2 years old I'd do that in a second.
I've been happy with Google's return department. I bought a launch Pixel 2 XL and the screen annoyed the hell out of me. I was able to get a replacement normal Pixel 2 + a refund of the difference in less than a week. I've heard similar stories about their tablets and laptops. At the same time, their quality isn't exactly amazing. They have Apple prices but without the polish.

There are several deals for the Pixel 3a devices already; many are providing $100 gift cards. So they're basically $299-379 plus tax depending on if you want to look at it that way.

Wife is happy with her GS7 Edge(she loves wireless charging) and my one plus 5T still is chugging along. But I am glad someone is filling the void in this price segment.

Pixel 3a arrived today, ported over everything already. My only complaint is the lack of Micro SD card support, but with 64GB of total internal memory that should be manageable. Hopefully I'll have coverage at work, by golly.

Honestly, with music streaming and backing up photos and videos to the cloud - 64GB is plenty. I have 256GB on my iPhone X and I don't even have 80GB utilized. If I kept all my photos and videos on the cloud only then I'd barely crack 40GB.

Wish the $300 Best Buy deal was for T-Mobile as well, because I need to replace my son's old S7 with one that supports all bands in Italy (where we're about to move to in a couple weeks). I'm planning on getting a Switch this weekend too, so would immediately use that $100 gift card towards that.

Anyone seen any other deals on the 3a? I see I can trade in his S7 through the Google store for a whopping $77 credit, which probably isn't much less than I could get for it privately considering the battery is at about 60% capacity. So I might just go that route.

Look at B&H. Un-locked version of the Normal and XL. 100$ e-gift card and 60$ prepaid mint sim. Buy switch their or sell it for like 80$ cash on ebay. Sell the mint Sim card for 30$ and you got a smoking deal.

Man these things sound like a sweet deal, with all these specials on top of it. I am going to wait a bit for the used market, bet they will be going for $200 in no time.

If you don't, surely they'll let you connect to the internet via WiFi?

That's the beauty of these phones. No cell signal? Got WiFi internet? No problem.

New service has coverage. But work is stringent about who gets WiFi access, and typically the access is restricted to company devices. I'm not high up enough on the food chain for that.

I hope so. These budget phones don't budge much. I was looking for a Oneplus 5t for a while but even years after release, they are mostly going for retail or right under. I wouldn't want a used one, I'm looking at normal online retail shops.

Well shoot with all the deals that there are at launch. I would think a good deal would be had down the road. I am totally cool with buying used. Especially a mid range.
