3 Slot "MATX" motherboard in Ncase M1

Is it only the atx psu that interferes with longer motherboards, or is it the bracket itself? Because if it's the former, you might be able to get that extra length with an adapter to use an sfx psu with the atx bracket.
It's the bracket itself.

Something like this might help? https://smallformfactor.net/forum/resources/ncase-m1-sfx-l-bracket.5/

It seems to create a lot of space, and counting some pixels in Photoshop it would suggest this board would fit then.
It moves the PSU pretty far forward, but the actual bracket ends only a little further forward. Maximum motherboard depth is about 203mm with this bracket. There is some room available for the bracket to be shorter, however, so if you were custom making one it could be made to allow for a 205mm deep board.

I ordered your case, so we'll see what I can fit when it gets here (and perhaps there might be other board options available as well by then).

Heya dudes, sorry if I'm necroposting here, but I've recently ordered a ncase m1 (still in shipping) for a z390/9900k itx build.
However I did notice that the recently leaked photos of the Asus Z390 Maximus XI Gene motherboard may actually fit in the ncase. (I know it super early days and the we have no confirmed specs/dimensions).
But looks like it may be a "3 slot" shorter mATX by the looks of it, front panel headers, USB2 and AUDIO headers might be a bit tricky to wire.
Also using a PSU bracket as posted above looks like it would grant just enough space as well width wise but again I'm just speculating at this point.
Would be sweet if I could a motherboard like this in there, the extra x4 slot could allow for 10gbe card or something and the DIMM2 card allows for more m2 drives.
What do you guys reckon?

I will wait for dimensions (motherboard size).

The RAM (memory area) and internal connectors has been an area of contention (for fit),
of motherboards larger than VIA Technologies mini-ITX (2001), 170 x 170mm (6.7 x 6.7 inch), one expansion slot.
A handful of AMD motherboards (budget market) support AMD’s mini-DTX (2007), 203 x 170mm (8 × 6.7 inches), 2-slots.

Ideally, IF the Ncase M1 had been sized sized for both mini-ITX and FlexATX (1999, Intel) motherboards
and SFX-L power supply, this would have addressed a number of possible designs.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlexATX
Flex-ATX motherboard dimensions (maximum): 229mm x 191mm (9 × 7.5 inch); Maximum 3-slots.

Although leaked images show the board being 3 slots, It is way wider than a standard itx board and will not fit, at least without some serious modding.

Ncase M1 rev. 3+

Additional motherboard standoffs added for compact mATX boards (226x173mm max w/SFX bracket)

Older Asus ROG Gene: 244mm x 244mm

but

New Asus ROG Gene: 226mm x 244mm

170 + 61,5mm = 231,5mm < 244mm wont fit without some PSU Modding.

FlexATX form factor (Intel 1999):
Motherboard no larger than 229 × 191 mm (9” x 7.5 inch), and no more than 3 expansion slots,
at least one PCI Express ×16
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlexATX

Mini-DTX form factor (AMD, 2007):
Most frequently found with AMD processor motherboards.
HP used extensively in the Pavilion Slimline series (3000 and 5000 models).
Motherboard size no larger than 203 × 170 mm (8 x 6.7 inch) and with 2 expansion slots (at least one PCI Express ×16)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DTX_(form_factor)

mITX form factor (VIA Technologies, 2001):
Motherboard size 170 x 170 mm (7.5 x 7.5 inch) and with 1 expansion slot (PCI Express ×16)

NCASE M1 form factor limits, from the designer:
“Maximum motherboard depth is 196mm, when using the ATX PSU bracket. ~173mm with SFX bracket.”

Look at ASRock motherboards (spun off from Asus) ... they have Intel & AMD offerings.
These will require usage of the ATX mounting bracket for power supply.

Majority of Taiwan board mfg. follow FlexATX(3-slot); mDTX (2-slot); or mITX (1-slot) form factors.
Many motherboards not using mATX form factor are basic-feature models (like H310), with some exceptions.

ASRock and Asus have H310 motherboards (and new B360M) that are suitable for NCASE M1,
when using the ATX mounting bracket. The ASRock B360M-HDV is quite a board !

ASRock H310CM-HDV (2-slot)
Form Factor: 191mm x 188mm (7.5-in x 7.4-in)

ASRock H310M-DGS (2-slot)
Form Factor: 191mm x 188mm (7.5-in. x 7.4-in.)
Features Chassis / Water Pump Fan connector
https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/H310M-DGS/index.asp

ASRock H310M-GM.2 (3-slot)
Form Factor: 226mm x 188mm (8.9-in x 7.4-in)
Board has M.2 Socket (M2_1), supporting M Key type.

What about the new ASUS ROG MAXIMUS XI GENE? I know the size will fit as we can see the below dimensions:

mATX Form Factor
9.6 inch x 8.9 inch ( 24.4 cm x 22.6 cm )

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-MAXIMUS-XI-GENE/overview/

My main question is will an SFX power supply still fit if we rotated it by a moded bracket somehow onto the front of the case.

From what necere said, it'd be too deep. I wonder if one could mount an SFX-L power supply by its fan on the side bracket. I don't imagine it'd leave a whole lot of room for tall ram clearance, but it'd open up that entire side of the case.

I've been missing my 10gbe card since moving to the Dan Cases itx case so I was searching for the smallest mATX case and stumbled on this thread. It's a bummer that it seems like there isn't anything modern that fits in the ncase m1, if only it was slightly larger!

There are a couple of ASROCK boards that have Thunderbolt 3 (I think their Z370 and Z390 boards). If you upgraded to one of those you could get Thunderbolt 3 to 10GB network card. I might be doing that as

Another option, is to use a M.2 adapter to pcie x4 adapter and use a normal 10GB network card in the bottom slot.

I will be doing one of these options as I am needing 10GB networking moving forward as well. That is also why i was looking at the ASUS Maximus XI Gene above. Which will fit in height wise but its only about 1mm too wide if putting the sfx power supply off of the front of the case. Its about 1mm too much from what i can see but I might try this soon and post the results..

Yea the thunderbolt option is about $250 so that sucks.

I also had the same idea about the m2 to pcie x4 but cabling would be a nightmare. It's too bad there just aren't any mitx boards with 10gbe at this point.

Wow! I didn't expect this to fit :) I wonder what cooler you plan to pair with it?

Yea I did a mockup with cardboard as I had the case already and made the purchase last week. It's incredibly tight as in not a milometer to spare lol
I've gone with a Noctua U9s for now but will see how temps go when I try to overclock a bit, might have to do a little playing around with the fans

huntk So what's the word on the mATX M1?
I saw the imgr posts, but no build log. How'd it go? Did I read correctly that you mounted the PSU directly to the frame with one screw?
What did you end up doing with the extra PCIe lanes?

Yea the build is all completed and been in use for the past 4-5 months as my daily PC. I upgraded the PSU to the SF750 recently, the PSU has one screw holding it and its otherwise wedged between motherboard power connector and case.
The 4x slot uses a QNAP QM2 10gbit card with 2 extra NVMe slots, so all up have 6 NVME drives, next up looking up upgrading my Maxwell Titan X to a RTX 2080 Ti.

Just a little update with some better quality photos not taken on a potato camera:
So the PSU is like wedged between the motherboard ATX power connector and the case, its got like one screw holding it. Couldn't use two screws as the PSU is slightly tilted down to accommodate the power plug up top, otherwise I couldn't close the case. The power button the motherboard is also a bit bent as well but I don't need it. I'm not sure how a bracket could fit in this case really.
I upgraded to an SF750 as well and got a couple of photos here for you:
Here's the left side showing the ATX Power Connection: https://i.imgur.com/0W1qAGy.jpg
The front here you can see the PSU is kinda tilted with only the right screwing holding it and power plug shifted down to fit: https://i.imgur.com/VkGJeJK.jpg
Here's the top where I've stripped a bit of the rubber off the power cable so it can sit inside the case: https://i.imgur.com/mKrYQfe.jpg
Window side with the mess of cables that I should really clean up: https://i.imgur.com/UGhqGxV.jpg

Nice!
Had not previously heard of the QNAP NIC/M.2 Card. Too bad it doesn't appear to be supported by Synology.
Their lack of a NAS that supports NVMe caching AND 10Gbit is a pretty gaping hole in their lineup.
That said, obviously a single PCIe x4 slot can't handle that much simultaneous throughput. Have you seen any slowdown or load-sharing issues?
Really cool build man. It's unrealistically optimistic, but I would love to see a continuation of a 3-slot mATX product line for these kinds of builds from Asus/ASRock/Gigabyte etc. If for no other reason, to give builds like yours a future upgrade path.
Obviously many people have asked dondan to consider a mATX version of the A4-SFX, which has been shot down, but maybe something could be done with the C4-SFX to trade radiator clearance for an optional mATX compatibility?
I get that to some, cramming larger than ITX boards into an SFF case doesn't make sense, but as someone running a dual Xeon server board in a 19.5L Cerberus X, I'd say that arbitrary volume limits and mini ITX don't really define SFF nearly as much as the more nebulous pursuit of jamming as much crap as possible into the smallest space possible.
Just because Mini ITX works for one person's needs, doesn't mean it works for everyone.
