Buy ~40" 4K now or wait?

I'm looking to upgrade my 24" 16:10 samsung monitor that is a few years old to a 4K model around 40". I've been reading through the forums and I'm not really sure if there is anything out that suits my needs.

I want to use the monitor for general browsing/productivity,videos and some trading work, no gaming. Being a TV is a plus because of the tuner, but not at the expense of being a good pc monitor. I would prefer a semi-matte or matte screen to glossy.

I've read that the Phillips and the Samsung models have PWM which can cause eyestrain, and the Sony W830 doesn't support 4:4:4 for crisp text. Is there anything else that I am missing, or would I be better off waiting?

Edit: my video card is an EVGA GTX 750ti

I would never buy a new TV, or any hardware in a very late year. It's almost 2016, so you can tank with what you have now. New toys will be better, and older ones will be even cheaper.

I am also curious about this. I am looking at the Samsung 4k monitors (JU6700/JU7500) and while I agree with Sean about waiting, I know I won't be able to afford the newest shiny toys Samsung comes out with and It's unlikely the JU models will get much cheaper then on Black Friday for quite a few months after, even with the release of new models.

Additionally while waiting is ideal, there's always something new and continually waiting for something better will leave you never upgrading. I am honestly curious if there are any current 4K TV/Monitors that are plenty good as a Monitor replacement. Rtings had a good article but I do wonder about PWM like RTBar.

750 can't do 4:4:4 @ 4K over HDMI anyway right? You're looking at 970 or better for full HDMI 2.0 support, if you want to drive a 4K TV without displayport (not sure that any do?)

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that for RTBar... your video card wont work for any of the popular 4k TV/Monitor options. However if you don't mind upgrading, these are the cards you will need (many of which are on big sales today and this BFriday)

Many graphics cards can send a 4k @ 60 hz @ chroma 4:4:4 signal over DisplayPort, but the list of cards that are capable of doing so over HDMI 2.0 is much shorter. It's worth noting that if you're looking for this feature, you'll need to stick with Nvidia. AMD's current lineup isn't capable.

Here are the cards that support 4k @ 60 hz @ 4:4:4.
Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan X
Nvidia GeForce GTX 980
Nvidia GeForce GTX 970
Nvidia GeForce GTX 960

I bought a 970 this morning, now I am trying to find a monitor myself

This is what I was thinking, but are there supposed to be any big changes coming up next year that would be worth waiting for?

That's the other thing, even if there are improvements next year, I probably wouldn't have even considered the Samsungs if they weren't on sale.

GTX950 HDMI 2.0 as well so he could get that to support the resolutions much cheaper since he mentioned this would not be for gaming. $129 after MIR

Perfect, because I really didn't want to spend $300 on a card just to run a monitor, I may pick this one up, thanks.

But still, does anyone have any input on today's existing monitors for my usage? I see most comments referencing gaming, but I am more interested in productivity/browsing and possibly tv/movies. I also use the monitor late at night often so low brightness is necessary (and this is where the flickering happens supposedly?)

Yep, however if you plan on having a second monitor plugged in at any time I hear it breaks the 4:4:4 capability so I would not do that. With BFriday coming up, the 960 is only a bit higher but can do 2 monitors (from what I read)... so just keep that in mind.
