This was a fun list to make. I never really thought about how much AMD has been a part of my life. Ever since my Core 2 Quad I don't even think about them anymore - until now!

Intel 386 (something)
AMD 400 MHz AMD-k6-2
INTEL Pentium III 800Mhz ( A particularly stunning upgrade for me)
AMD XP 1500+ (Burned up – I decided I would test it real quick without the heatsink)
AMD XP 1800 +
AMD 64 3200 Venice
AMD Opteron 165 at 2.4GHZ
Intel Q6600 at 3.0Ghz
Do I see the i7 in my future? Maybe

Looks like I'm an Intel guy on my personal/home workstation. It's been AMD at work for the most part.

WTF, you went from a C2D back to an X2?

Yeah, needed the money right after I built my C2D rig and sold it on here... Then built a new system a few months later (for cheaper) :) Honestly, I notice no difference between the C2D and the X2 for what I do

Had SOOO many upgrades, downgrades and sidegrades...try to remember them all...I'm sure a few slipped my mind. Notice no P4s in the mix...LOL. I saw them as overpriced for the performance gains.

AMD Opteron 146
AMD Opteron 165
These next ones were in 3 different rigs, so the times/upgrades are a bit mixed up as I upgraded one, moved the old one to a diff PC and so on.
Intel E4300
Intel E2180
Intel E5200
Intel E6300

Intel E7300

Wow...didn't realize how many cpus I ran thru over the last decade. NICE!

I'd like to see what my brother's list would look like...I know he started a year before me with the PII & had Celerons not to mention MANY more CPU swaps throughout the years.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (Bought and experimented with 2 Q9550's)
Intel Core 2 Quad QX9650

Best out of all the chips was the E5200 & Q9550, hence why I still have one of each around. The worst was the 7750 and 4200 X2 The worst chips I have had to work with. Horrible overclocking and results. Gave them away to family for upgrades for their pcs. The next chip on the list is going to be a 920 D0, Built a Pc for a friend with it and was impressed by its performance.

+ i3 530 to the list.

This is the time line of my main rigs. I've had a bunch of pentium x's, sempron's, athlon xp's, thunderbirds what have you but those where always secondary machines.

i7 920 (now 2 of em)

Also thinkin bout an i3. Not sure if its worth it. Doubtful there will be a noticeable performance diff, but its always fun to play with the newest stuff. If I do...one of the 8400s will have to go bye bye. :(

Still waiting on the board/ram to come to test it out fully. I have 3 530's right now that me and a friend purchased for the test bench. If it surprises me in performance it might just replace my 775 setup.

Intel 1.6a Northwood @ 2.4
Amd 3200 XP 1.8 @ 2.2 blah!
Intel e6300 1.8ghz @ 3ghz (current)

Doh, I pulled a stupid and posted a new one of these without searching first, so here is my entry.

I thought this might be fun, to see how people have progressed with their rigs over time.

I was just thinking about mine, and found it difficult to remember, but here it goes from my best recollection:

It all starts when I was allowed to use my parents old XT computer for educational games at age 8...

1988: 8088 (I forget the clock rate, probably 4Mhz)
1991: 286 8Mhz (OC:ed to 12MHz, This was both my my first own computer and the first one I took apart and put back together again at age 12, it scared the crap out of my parents)
1994: 486sx 25mhz (OC:ed to 50Mhz, This was my first - from scratch - PC build, For OC all that was needed was the addition of an HSF which it did not have stock)
1995: Pentium 90Mhz (OC:ed to 120Mhz)
1997: Pentium MMX 200mhz (would not OC at all)
2000: AMD Duron 600mhz (OC:ed to 800Mhz)
2001: AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz (Would not OC at all, this thing ran HOT)
2001: AMD Athlon 1.4Ghz
2001: AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz (same CPU as above after crushing the 1.4 (and it's replacement, my second 1.4) with an asetek vapochill
2001: AMD Duron 600mhz (OC:ed to 800mhz) After I destroyed the 1.2 with the vapochill and got fed up and sold it)
2002: AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (No OC. I had gotten tired of loud fans, and it was fast enough)
2004: AMD Athlon64 3000+ (socket 754) (OC:ed from 2Ghz to 2.4Ghz)
2009: Intel Core i7-920 (Was able to hit 3.8ghz stable air cooled with built in cooler in Shuttle SX58H7, but it was LOUD, so I'm running stock until I need more speed.)
