Hey guys,

Now that the prices have dropped I want to get a Q9550 sometime this month, but I'm going to wait a little bit for old stock to sell out so I can try and get a E0 stepping chip. In the meantime I'm stuck on which motherboard to get. I'm looking at DDR2 boards as DDR3 is too expensive for me.

I'm not really much of an overclocker, but I don't think that matters too much as I can read about it here and other places. I just want to get a board that can OC the CPU up to 3.8-4Ghz on air cooling (TRUE or Noctua).

I'm looking at :

Asus X48 Rampage Formula
DFI X48 UT (a bit pricey for me. is at the max of my limit)
DFI X48 LT (Is there much difference between UT? price is better)
Asus P45 P5Q Deluxe
Gigabyte EP45DS3P (will only consider if their P45 range doesn't have DPC latency issues)

RAM :OCZ Reaper 1066 4GB Kit

What do you guys recommend?

Im in the same boat, for a friend, except he is planning on oc'ing to the max.

btw, your 3.8-4Ghz on air maybe a lil optimistic.

I'm loving my rampage formula. I managed to brick 2 seperate DFI boards when trying to go over 400 FSB. They wouldnt post at all and no amount of resetting the bios would fix them. So far i've had my q6600 stable as high as 4ghz with 1.6v on the rampage.

edit: the dfi boards were the x38 LT and x48 LT

Asus has some overclocking winners with the Rampage and P5Q Deluxe.

rampage formula gets my vote aswell infact i am running a q9550 on it (upgraded it few days back) working like a charm :)

Have you overclocked it at all?

Also, any idea if you got a new stepping E0 Q9550?

I have a Rampage Formula and if there is an easier to overclock board or a more stable one I have not seen it. I have overclocked my Q9450 up to 3.6 g by upping the fsb to 450 and enabling LLC and nothing else. I run it all the time at 3.4 and no core gets above 54 degrees under a full prime load with small fft's. So it gets my vote.
