Trying to decide between two builds [Intel] or [AMD] - some parts already purchased

Yeah, I haven't bought any drives yet. Going to do more research into them before pulling the trigger. Those are just "the best" I put in there as a baseline to start. From the tests I've seen, the m.2 gen 5 drives are literally double what gen 4 are (sequential) and I don't know...maybe I'll...

Trying to decide between two builds [Intel] or [AMD] - some parts already purchased

I ended up going with this board and got the 7800x3D with the G.SKILL RAM in the pcpartpicker link in the original post. Final AMD build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ftHNz6 Everything look good? Honestly, I don't mind returning the Intel stuff. Everything was delivered within the last 2...

Oh, yeah, wow. Exactly a month ago. Looks like Asus is back on the menu.

I haven't but perhaps I should. I just love the fish tank look, although I know it's not for everyone. For the Asus board, did they fix their issues with thermals or blowing up or whatever the actual issue was? I've read some super bad reviews on this generation of AMD Asus boards.

Trying to decide between two builds [Intel] or [AMD] - some parts already purchased

So, interestingly enough! The Taichi boards look amazing and I have been looking at them all day but I saw they are E-ATX and unless the new HYTE Y70 case (releasing on Tuesday) can support E-ATX, I won't be able to use these boards (even though they do look like the best of all AMD boards with...

Trying to decide between two builds [Intel] or [AMD] - some parts already purchased

Yeah, my only concern really is for the Intel boards, you share PCIe5 lanes with the PCIe5 m.2 slot, thus halving your PCIe5 slot for the 4090. Granted, not a huge deal. Maybe a 1-10% loss depending on the game but, it doesn't leave much future-proofing. This is the only reason I'm hedging a bit...

Trying to decide between two builds [Intel] or [AMD] - some parts already purchased

One more thing, and sorry to keep this alive, may I request help on picking a solid AMD board? The one I chose has bad m.2 layouts and I just can't find one with decent overall reviews.

Trying to decide between two builds [Intel] or [AMD] - some parts already purchased

Yeah, this build is 100% for gaming and general use with some Photoshop/AI work occasionally. It will be my daily driver for everything.

Trying to decide between two builds [Intel] or [AMD] - some parts already purchased

Well, unless there are any other objections/thoughts/opinions, it appears AMD is the way to go. I'll just return the Intel stuff.

So the AMD parts I picked out are good? The motherboard is good? I'm open to better/more expensive options if they're rated to be better.

Trying to decide between two builds [Intel] or [AMD] - some parts already purchased

What about the PCIe5 lanes that will be halved for the 4090 on the Intel board if shared with a PCIe5 m.2? Is that even a consideration? Yeah, the AMD board options weren't very impressive. And there definitely weren't as many to choose from as there was with Intel. And I am definitely more...

Trying to decide between two builds [Intel] or [AMD] - some parts already purchased

Hello! This build will be primarily for gaming. Photoshop/AI secondary. It will be on 1440p, 34" UW x2, looking for ultra graphics on all games. In the US. Budget is $3,500+/-. Intel Build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9GZ4MV AMD Build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Q2cZJy So, I initially...

    My upgrade is available

Thank you for all of the replies so far. After looking around, I think I've narrowed it down to 3 phones. 1). Note 3 - Like many of you have said, it's going to be insanely good. My only hesitation is the size. I know it's slightly larger than the Note 2, but I've heard nothing but good...

    My upgrade is available

So, my upgrade is available with Verizon as of now. I've had the Galaxy Nexus 32GB since it's release day and I've loved every minute of it - with the unlocked bootloader, rooting, and customization possibilities. Is there a phone out at the moment that's actually worth going to as far as screen...

    SSD sleep question

Hi all: After much google searching - I can't seem to find a definite answer. I have a Crucial M4 512GB SSD on firmware 0309. Would it be okay to let it sleep? I have run it 24/7 for over a year now. I've read a lot about people having issues with waking from sleep but is it still an issue...

Crucial M4 SSD 512GB Benchmark results

Yes, I did update to the 0009 firmware before running these tests. There's an AS SSD screenshot in my OP. It's a bit small but it's there. The motherboard I have is an ASUS P6X58D Premium. The controller is uses is a Marvell. That's what I'm plugging it into. It's also a 6GB/s SATA port.

Crucial M4 SSD 512GB Benchmark results

Hey guys, I just installed my Crucial M4 512GB SSD and have been running CrystalDiskMark 3.0. How do these results look? I've attached screen shots of tests run in IDE mode and AHCI mode. I've read that AHCI mode gives better results...and these CrystalDiskMark results do prove that (at...

    Random shutdown after replacing pump?

Sorry for the delay in response guys. It turns out it was the PSU. I went to a local Staples and bought the largest PSU they had (750W) which is 50W more than the one I had. I put it in, and no more issues. I've been able to reboot and shutdown multiple times in the past day or so and it seems...

    Random shutdown after replacing pump?

Yeah, I rewired my radiator fans a bit and took out some unnecessary connectors I found. I don't get it though. It ran all night, no issues until I shut it down this morning (for the fan rewire). I don't think I could run it long enough to test with the pump off before the temps got too high...

    Random shutdown after replacing pump?

After the RAM test last night I posted I decided to do an OS HDD test using the Seagate HDD tester in Hirens 10.0. This took a while but came back and passed on a long test. I then had the idea to do a repair of Windows XP (which apparently you both had the same idea!) because it was the only...

    Random shutdown after replacing pump?

Well, I downloaded and burned Memtest86+ on the laptop here. It ran just fine for 25 minutes and passed 100% through 1 full pass. No errors were reported. Also, one other thing I noticed; I could sit in the BIOS all day long and the PC won't reboot or shutdown. I'm going to let another pass go...

    Random shutdown after replacing pump?

About 2 months ago the water pump in my PC died so I just got around to ordering a new one. I ordered the same exact pump as I had - Swiftech MCP655-B. I also got some new tubing, as the tubes I had were foggy and such. I spent all day today installing my new pump and doing some much...

    Aesthetics or performance?

I'd be picking the 295's for performance. So you can basically OC an i7 920 just about the same as an i7 975 extreme? I know of the price difference...it's significant but is the performance difference significant? I know it seems I'm talking about of both sides of my mouth here, but I...

    Aesthetics or performance?

Hah, performance - 8 :: Aestheics - 0 Yeah, I want to OC using air this build and will be getting a Prolimatech Megahalem Black Edition for the CPU heatsink. I may try my luck at lapping the two as well. I guess I should have mentioned the equipment of choice to help with the decision...

    Aesthetics or performance?

I've read a lot of the posts on deciding between the X58's but I'm having a real hard time deciding if I want the X58 LE or the X58 Classified mainly due to the fact that I want to try to completely black out this build and the Classified edition has red all over it. The LE edition is all black...

    Water cooling additives? PT_Nuke/Pentosin G11

Ok, so...in my loop I will have a copper CPU block, a nickel plated GPU block, and the copper inside my radiator. Those are the only metals I'll be mixing. When mixing metals I've read you will need a corrosion inhibitor. With that said, what would be the best additive to use with just...

    Vinegar in the radiator

I think I may actually put my radiator fans as exhaust. This is due to the fact that when they are in this position, the dust in my radiator fins is significantly reduced. I guess the only issue to this is how it's pushing hot air from my case through the radiator. =/ But, are you able to...

    Vinegar in the radiator

The antifreeze is a 50/50 mix. Or, so says the bottle it came in. So I'm guessing that's 50% antifreeze and 50% some type of water? Well, the new block I ordered is nickel plated so when I put that in, I won't have anymore aluminum in the loop. It will all be copper and nickel. When I...

    Vinegar in the radiator

Alright, thank you. So the 50/50 antifreeze is okay to use in the system? All of this came along because last time I ran antifreeze in my loop, I diluted it with distilled water but it was already prediluted. And...90% water with an aluminum GPU block = corroded to pieces. I also flushed it with...

    Vinegar in the radiator

I flushed out my radiator with vinegar and boiling distilled water...but what I'm seeing now after a few flushes with just the distilled water are small bubbles that come out and slide all over the place. I'm guessing it's the vinegar trying not to mix with the distilled water. Similar to oil...

PC shutsdown and then reboots after overclock

Here's the weird thing....under the auto setting, the vcore was 1.424 said CPUZ, but now....I have it set static in the BIOS and it's set to 1.437 but CPUZ only reads it as 1.416. Those are idle readings though in CPUZ. Under load, the voltages went down just a little bit. I also downclocked...

PC shutsdown and then reboots after overclock

Well, it seems I've run into another issue. Since putting my vcore to a static setting, my temps have been much higher than before (which was expected) but they're too high and I can't keep Orthos running for more than 2-3 minutes before either a reboot or a BSOD. Should I downclock a bit?

PC shutsdown and then reboots after overclock

I set it in the BIOS to 1.4250 and the cold reboot issue is gone. It didn't happen when I tried a cold boot. So, I'm guessing me having my vcore set to auto was messing me up. The only thing I'm concerned with now is what is the "proper" vcore setting and which one won't raise my temps too...
