    Optical Archival - Software Recommendations?

For parity I use Multipar What I do for archival is encrypt my files with 7z into 1GB segments and generate parity files with a high amount of redundancy (Enough to recover two missing segments entirely or enough to regenerate multiple corrupt segments). Then I upload to Amazon AWS with the...

Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

That is why I am reserving judgement for now, it is the first "public" iteration of this flight model. If a new user started playing today they'd probably be fine. People, including me, are just reluctant to change. That said, the game should have tool tips when launching new features. I feel...

Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

Last night I successfully did a bunker mission and a bunker protect mission without any issues. The new MM modes and cruise control changes are a bit cumbersome but they aren't a deal breaker (yet). Initial impressions I have is that both changes are cumbersome and unintuitive. It just feel like...

Uncensored A.I. chat software that you can run locally on your PC

I have a 3070TI and things ran decent enough. I threw in some old DND 5E books and it was able to pull up items from stat blocks and tables decently enough. The non-OCR book was a bit of a struggle. Might be a good lookup helper for a DM. I also have 64GB of ram and it is a matter of trading...

Uncensored A.I. chat software that you can run locally on your PC

It depends on your hardware and what you are looking to get out of it. There is quite a bit of discussion here: https://www.reddit.com/r/LocalLLaMA/ Coding assistants are popular, role playing chats, and there are now options to read local files as a backend dataset. The largest factor right...

Infinite Craft - Combine Things Indefinitely

From what I read the combinations are generated by ChatGPT (or equivalent).

    Steam Client Update

Steam uses a ton of CPU power to download and decompress the game updates. That I checked you couldn't disable updates entirely but I set my games to update at 5am and I just leave my client closed when I am not using it then update manually.

Anyone went strictly to SSDs only yet ?

My computer has five SSDs. Three of them are M.2 and two of them are SATA. My NAS still has spinners though. Once you get a drive that goes 6GB/s+ you can't go back.

New Youtube anti-adblock tactic- being a resource hog- debunked, was Adblock issue

All these years I have just used NoScript and skipped both Adblock Plus and UBO. Way back in the day I used the original Adblock before I just switched to NoScript. Mostly because my main goal was to stop sites from executing whatever they wanted in my browser. Am I really missing anything by...

New Youtube anti-adblock tactic- being a resource hog- debunked, was Adblock issue

I use Firefox with NoScript and have Youtube Premium. I just tested it and noticed no slow downs. Firefox is using 1% CPU during video playback. No delays or adblock prompt (some sites detect NoScript as an adblocker).

Can't Access Remote PC with Remote Desktop Connection (RDC)

Using a VPN is the best option, or something like Zero-Tier. I have noticed one issue with Comcast for some services. When I am on my home network I can connect directly using my computer name and port. But if I connect through my domain desktop.domain.com that points at my external IP it will...

    Cities Skylines 2

I made the graphics suggestions they they recommended on their Steam home page and it ran fine. I have a middling city that I've spent about 2 hours on and it runs pretty good with my 7900X and 3070TI. There were moments it chugged it bit when my city was hit by a tornado but it ran fine otherwise.
